Tehran - SANA

Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Erwani, called for the immediate, complete and unconditional abolition of unjustified sanctions imposed on Syria and an increase in humanitarian aid to it.

In a speech he delivered today at the Security Council meeting on Syria, Erwani said: The devastating earthquake in Syria has exacerbated the humanitarian situation in it, which severely affected the ability of individuals to meet their basic needs, pointing out that the deterioration of the humanitarian situation requires an increase in humanitarian aid and its provision in a neutral, non-discriminatory manner. Without politicization or conditions for those affected by the earthquake.

Iran's ambassador to the United Nations said: "In order to pay more effective attention to the current humanitarian crisis in Syria, the international community must focus on the complete lifting of inhumane sanctions against the Syrian people, explaining that the recent exemptions for humanitarian aid are not enough and are just an attempt to raise concern."

Erwani stressed that unilateral coercive measures constitute a clear violation of international laws and the Charter of the United Nations and impede the Syrian people's access to their needs and the ability of government institutions to provide basic services and improve living standards. Therefore, it is not enough to express solidarity without taking specific measures.

The Iranian representative called for the immediate, complete and unconditional cancellation of these unjustified sanctions.

The Iranian delegate condemned the continuous plundering of Syria's natural resources by foreign forces occupying its lands, stressing that these practices must stop, noting the Syrian government's efforts to support and facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid to all regions.

Erwani pointed out that terrorism still poses a serious threat to Syria and the region and must be dealt with decisively, expressing concern about the illegal presence of foreign military forces illegally present in Syria, which violates the Charter of the United Nations and international laws, indicating that it is the main source of insecurity in this country and must Ending it in order to create an environment conducive to resolving the crisis.

The representative of Iran said: We firmly believe that combating terrorism must be carried out with full respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Syria, and without using it as a pretext for violating these basic principles of international law.
