Months of tough negotiations between Laurent Wauquiez and Bruno Bernard finally led to the choice of around thirty projects.

At the forefront of which are three markers of the regional executive, who had a hand in the discussions, appear as the best abounded in the State-Region Plan Contract (CPER) validated at the end of last week, before a final vote by the regional council during the plenary on 9 and 10 March.

According to information from Le

Figaro

, the Lyon-Trévoux link, the new Caluire high school and the Tissue Museum thus drain more than half of the 500 million euro envelope allocated to the metropolitan territory.

The Métropole nevertheless managed to obtain 21 million euros in funding for the renovation of bridges (12 million) and the construction of footbridges (9 million).

A central expenditure item in the management of the heritage and roads of the community, which has committed 82 million euros to the mandate for the maintenance and renovation of the more than 3000 works of art for which it is responsible.

And for good reason, audited like the whole of the French park following the tragic collapse of the Genoa viaduct in the summer of 2019, Lyon's heritage in this area had turned out to be particularly dilapidated.

With several bridges in a worrying state, subject to a classification at the highest level of vigilance in the French scale.

Support for the Vernaison and Couzon suspension bridges

This is particularly the case of the Vernaison bridge, a structure suspended above the extremely weakened Rhône, for which the CPER is earmarking 9 million euros, including 5 from the Region and 4 from the State out of a budget of 11. Located downstream of Lyon, it gives cold sweats with each period of heat wave because of the tension that the heat creates on the cables.

To the point that the Metropolis has covered it with sensors, for one million euros, and that a temporary bridge must be built pending the renovation or reconstruction of the current one.

A few kilometers further north, above the Saône, another suspension bridge has become the symbol of Lyon's setbacks in terms of maintaining its heritage.

That of Couzon, had been borrowed several times by oversized trucks, including a 32 ton which had bent a steel retaining beam in April 2021. To the point of having to remain closed to traffic for several months.

Its renovation will be supported to the tune of 3 million euros out of a budget of 4.5, including 2 from the Region and 1 from the State, while the Metropolis had already voted a subsidy of 5 million last summer.

New gateways

A welcome support for the Métropole which recovered in 2014 the departmental skills and the infrastructure portfolio that goes with it.

A heritage that continues to grow since the downgrading of the A6-A7 to a metropolitan boulevard has pushed the tunnels and the Perrache interchange into the hands of Greater Lyon.

One of the hoppers had to be removed asbestos on the terms of reference.

Rebuilt after the war, Lyon's bridges

"are coming to an end"

after 75 years of service, as pointed out by the vice-president in charge of Travel, Jean Charles Kohlhaas (EELV), in Figaro in 2021, regretting the lack of state maintenance.

With sometimes huge budgets, as for the Bonaparte bridge, currently under construction, or that of Île Barbe, the repair of which will cost 10 million euros - the classified work having to be rebuilt identically, materials included.

On the construction side, the state-region plan provides support for the creation of the footbridge between the city center of Oullins in the south of Lyon and the new district, coming out of the wasteland, of La Saulaie to the tune of 6 million out of 25, of which 1 from the region and 5 from the state.

That between Décines and Meyzieu above the Rocade will receive 3 million out of 10, including two from the region and 1 from the State.

This work was to be partly financed by OL according to the commitment obtained from environmentalists by Jean-Michel Aulas in return for the construction of his OL Arena.
