The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced several changes in his cabinet on Monday.

In a message from the Casa de Nariño, the president announced the departure of the Ministers of Education, Alejandro Gaviria;

Culture, Patricia Ariza, and Sport, María Isabel Urrutia.

"I have decided to appoint Aurora Vergara as Minister of Education and Astrid Rodríguez as Minister of Sports, so that with new energy they can complete the reform process that has begun," said Petro.

The president did not mention who will assume the Culture portfolio, but the government press team indicated that the musician Ignacio Zorro will be the minister in charge.

These changes are the first that the president has made in his cabinet since he assumed the presidency.

Petro did not explain the reason for the departures.

However, during his message he referred to the reforms promoted by his government, especially the reform of the health system.
