Quentin ("Koh-Lanta"): "I took Tania's attitude as a betrayal"

2023-02-28T22:40:15.836Z

INTERVIEW – Despite his reserve, the 26-year-old carpenter from eastern France marked the second episode of the adventure game broadcast on TF1.

To shine in

"Koh-Lanta"

requires many qualities.

Remaining discreet while managing to share his ideas is one of them and Quentin has understood this well.

From the first days, the 26-year-old candidate knew how to make himself indispensable both on the camp and on the tests.

He returns with the humility that characterizes him on the highlights of his early adventure.

LE FIGARO.

- How did you come to take part in

Koh-Lanta

 ?

QUENTIN.

-

We can say that "Koh-Lanta" was a childhood dream.

I applied six times.

Once, a few years ago, I had the chance to pass the first stages of casting but apart from that, I had never heard from.

I didn't apply there every year because in the meantime, our daughter was born.

This year has been the good one.

You suffered a serious motorcycle accident in 2015 followed by a knife attack in 2020. Has this status of "survivor" influenced your way of seeing the adventure?

I imagine so.

In my opinion, to come to “Koh-Lanta” you have to have things to prove to yourself, and also have a story.

If we have nothing to contribute to the program, I don't mean it's useless, but almost.

Did these accidents earn me my place?

I don't know.

Now it helped me a lot for the adventure because I really wanted to fight it out.

I have matured a lot in the meantime, I think that weighed in the balance.

Before, I used to go there a bit for fun.

This year, I took my candidacy much more seriously.

Have you prepared yourself physically before departure?

You never know long in advance if you've been selected, since we're notified of our participation two to three weeks before departure.

As I have a very physical job, I didn't need to prepare myself physically before.

Survival level, I have not prepared either but I think I'm doing pretty well in the matter.

You are a carpenter by profession.

How much did your skills help you on the island?

For the construction of the hut, I was immediately challenged to give advice.

Afterwards, my job isn't to make cabins, it's to make houses and structures, but it's sure that when it comes to wood, I'm generally called upon and I like it.

“I was afraid to leave the adventure”

Quentin, candidate for "Koh-Lanta, the sacred fire" on TF1

At the beginning of the adventure, you seem on the reserve and little by little, you flourish both on the tests and on the camp.

How did you manage the adventure?

At first I didn't want to stand out too much because I find that it is necessary to be relatively discreet, whether at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of the adventure.

If you show yourself too much, notice too much, it doesn't go down well with a lot of people.

I tried to be calm, like in everyday life without being a follower.

It's my state of mind.

I like to give my point of view.

I don't impose anything, I propose and little by little, the bird makes its nest as they say.

Finding yourself twenty on a beach on the first day makes integration more complicated.

Now that we're a team, it's easier to show your true personality.

How did you experience obtaining the fire after several days without success?

It was a lot of emotion to manage to make the fire because we spent a lot of energy on it.

We didn't stop for two days and it finally happened.

I had borderline tears in my eyes.

The more you persevere, the more it works.

This moment was very intense and it is true that I am very proud to have made the small ember after so much effort.

You seem to have had an allergic reaction following the ingestion of a fruit that resembled breadfruit.

What went through your head at that moment?

We were so hungry and wanted to try to eat hot after we got the fire.

Nicolas had announced that the fruit found was very similar to that of the breadfruit tree, that it was enough to cook it and eat the thorns.

It turns out that it was not at all and I felt the side effects much more than the others.

When hungry, eating something that does not have the desired effect is really very hard.

And above all, I really did not feel well.

I was afraid to leave the adventure.

Anyway, every time something happens to us - we cut off a fingertip or whatever - we can say to ourselves that it's the end of the adventure.

Before each event, we consult a doctor and so there I

went there because I didn't feel up to doing the immunity test.

So I had two solutions: try to participate or be put aside.

You finally decide to take part in the test.

Your choice turned out to be conclusive since your team wins it largely thanks to you...

I didn't want to leave the others in trouble.

And clearly, I did well.

I'm not going to say that it invigorated me but almost.

The start of the game was very complicated, especially when we saw that we had to wear the length, going 50 kilos and returning 90. Especially since I am tall, which meant a lot of weight to wear compared to others.

[Laughs] At the end of the day, I'm very proud of what happened.

During this immunity test, you overheard

Tania

talking to the opposing team.

How did you experience this behavior?

I was very disappointed.

Everyone knew that Rudy and Tania had a little affinity from the start, but that doesn't explain talking to someone on the sly like that.

I don't know if it was before or after the ordeal but she clearly did it to protect herself, especially since Rudy had the talisman.

I took Tania's attitude as a betrayal.

We were still part of the same team, the goal was to win over the reds so I was very disappointed with Tania.

She shot herself in the foot.

After that, you have to regain confidence and go up in the esteem of the team.
