A year ago, the police found the remains of Sonja Engelbrecht.

The 19-year-old from Munich disappeared in 1995. It is now clear that she was the victim of a sex crime.

To find the culprit, investigators turn to the public again.

The decisive find is two meters long and 1.20 meters wide: remains of an old woolen blanket in blue and black.

A striking floral pattern adorns the front and back in reverse.

Does anyone recognize this blanket?

Or do you know who once owned such a piece?

That's what the police are hoping for.

Because: Sonja Engelbrecht's body was wrapped in this blanket - it could lead the investigators to the murderer's trail.

This is one of the reasons why the case of the woman from Munich, who was last seen alive on April 11, 1995 at Stiglmaierplatz, is again the subject of file number XY... unresolved.

ZDF will broadcast the TV show on March 1st at 8:15 p.m.

For 28 years now, the murder commission has been trying to clarify what happened to Sonja Engelbrecht.

Her remains were found in March 2022 in a forest near Kipfenberg, in the Altmühltal north of Ingolstadt.

Chief investigator Stephan Beer calls this an absolute success for the police.

At that time, they moved in with a large contingent, with sniffer dogs and specialists from the height rescue service in the impassable and extensive forest area.

A femur had previously been found, which could be assigned to Engelbrecht by DNA analysis.

Experts call this a cross hit.

Now the police are revealing for the first time exactly what they found in a crevice in this forest.

According to Beer, Sonja Engelbrecht's remains were wrapped in several garbage bags and foils.

"Their analysis showed that they had previously been used in construction and renovation work." According to Beer, paint was found on the foils and the tape.

For the investigators, it is therefore obvious that the perpetrator either renovated or built privately in 1995 or worked in this industry professionally.

In addition, the police assume that he had a local connection to Kipfenberg or the Ingolstadt/Eichstätt region 28 years ago.

He must have known the remote wooded area and the crevice in the rocks.

"No hiker goes there, no mushroom picker," says Beer.

With the find in March 2022, the homicide commission also confirmed the suspicion that Sonja Engelbrecht had allegedly been the victim of a sex crime.

Although a large part of the skeleton of the 19-year-old was discovered in the forest, including her jewelry and her nose ring, no clothing was found in the crevice.

That means: The body of the 19-year-old was naked when it was placed there.

The police assume that a single perpetrator was at work at the time.

Someone who managed to carry the woman's body, which weighs around 55 kilograms, several hundred meters through the impassable forest terrain.

According to Beer, the forensic analysis is still ongoing: he did not provide any information on its findings.

He and his team hope that the new information, and especially the ceiling, will bring back memories.

If anyone owns a similar piece, the police would like to use it for comparison purposes.
