Stretching out on the world's best beach won't be easy.

Baía do Sancho is only accessible by boat or by stairs that descend steep cliffs to the golden sands.

The beach is in Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago located about 354 kilometers from the mainland coast of Brazil, in the state of Pernambuco.

Visitors arrive at the islands by plane or by boat.

Getting there is an effort, but what awaits die-hard travelers is well worth it, according to Tripadvisor's new ranking.

Baía do Sancho is the best stretch of coastline in the world in 2023, according to the travel website's annual list of the best beaches in the world, published on Tuesday.

Last year, Baía do Sancho was ranked 7th on the list.

The list of beaches is part of the Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice awards, which are determined from millions of opinions submitted by travelers throughout 2022.

Tripadvisor considers the quality and quantity of reviews when determining ratings.

The rest of the best beaches

The Caribbean has three places in the top 10 of 2023, including number 2, Eagle Beach, in Aruba;

the 5th, Grace Bay Beach, in Turks and Caicos;

and on the 9th, Varadero beach, in Cuba.

Last year, the beaches of Grace Bay and Varadero ranked first and second, respectively.

Eagle Beach was #5 in 2022.

The top 10 list also includes a US beach: Ka'anapali Beach, on Maui, at number 10. The beach ranks No. 1 on Tripadvisor's separate list of America's 10 Best Beaches for 2023. Ka'anapali missed the top 10 on the global list in 2022 and was No. 17 on the US list last year.

Situated on the western coast of the island, Ka'anapali boasts three miles of white sand and a famous cliff-diving ritual at Puʻu Kekaʻa, or Black Rock.

Every evening at sunset, a diver lights torches along the cliff and dives off the rock in a re-enactment of the feat of Maui's King Kahekili.

Europe has three beaches in the top 10 for 2023: Reynisfjara beach, in Vik (Iceland), at number 4;

Praia da Falésia, in Olhos de Agua, Portugal, on the 6th;

and the Italian Spiaggia dei Conigli, at 8. Only one of the three also appears among the 10 best of 2022: Spiaggia dei Conigli, in Sicily, was number 10 that year.

Australia occupies one of the top 10 places, with number 3, Cable Beach, in Broome, located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

One of Broome's most coveted experiences is a sunset camel ride along this 22-kilometre stretch of Indian Ocean coastline.

Cable Beach was number 11 on the world list last year.

Radhanagar Beach, number 7, on Havelock Island (Swarag Dweep) in the Andamans, represents India on the list.

The beach drops one position from the number 6 it held in 2022.

Tripadvisor has a separate list dedicated to American beaches.

In the United States, Hawaii is the state that stands out the most, with three beaches in the top 10, while Florida and California have two.

Beaches in Georgia, Oregon, and Maine are also in Tripadvisor's top 10.
