The Government of Chile formalized before Argentina the request for the extradition of Jones Huala

The trans-Andean chancellery sent it to the ministry of Santiago Cafiero. The Mapuche leader is accused in that country of escaping and not complying with his probation for a crime.

The Chilean Foreign Ministry finally processed the request for the extradition of Facundo Jones Huala to that country.

The leader and creator of the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance group (RAM) remains detained in a prison in Esquel, following an international arrest warrant from Interpol that came after his arrest almost a month ago.

In Chile, justice claims him for having escaped a year ago a few days after the neighboring Supreme Court revoked a conditional release that he had obtained in January of that same year in February 2022.

He also violated a ban on leaving that country.

Jones Huala was sentenced to 6 years in prison for the burning of a farm in 2013 and three for illegal possession of weapons.

Jones Huala was arrested in El Bolsón at dawn on January 30 in an unexpected operation by the Río Negro police.

He was drunk, disheveled and dressed in a woman's skirt and shirt.

He was detained for a few days in a police station in Bariloche, his hometown, and then was transferred to a criminal prison in Esquel, where he had already been imprisoned between 2017 and 2018. Then his first extradition took place to serve his sentence.

It so happens that he too then he escaped without being caught.

In Chile, now the prosecutor's office of the Río Bueno commune requested his extradition, a judge from Valdivia approved it, and the same Court of Appeals of that area ratified it.

Now, as Clarín learned from Chilean and Argentine sources, it was Antonia Urrejoa, Gabriel Boric's chancellor, who on Monday gave the Santiago de Cafiero ministry the request, which should be granted or not by Argentine justice.

The case is before Judge Gustavo Villanueva.

After being arrested, Jones Huala has been asking for his release and also asked to stay in Argentina and not be extradited to Chile.

He knows that in that country, after escaping from him, he will have fewer chances of leaving before completing his full sentence.

Just as he did when he was released from the Temuco prison on parole in January 2022 and declared war against the Argentine and Chilean States, against companies and capital, Jones Huala recently issued a recorded message from the Esquel prison where is.

In the audio, he declared himself "ashamed" of his drunken arrest, said that his town suffered from alcohol and drug abuse problems (he spoke of "winka poison"), and said that he would continue his "fight" identified as Mapuche. He in turn demanded that the Government, as does his defense, not accept extraditing him.

Far from calling massive demonstrations in his favor as from 2015 onwards, Jones Huala today is in jail more alone than ever.
