The government also reminds the public that if they try to obtain oral medicines for the new crown by improper means (including deceiving doctors), they may commit the crime of fraud. Once convicted, they can be sentenced to up to 14 years in prison.

Even if citizens legally obtain prescription new crown oral drugs from doctors, whether they are provided free of charge by the government or purchased from doctors at their own expense, they cannot be resold or given to others.

Selling, reselling or supplying prescription drugs for free constitutes a related offense under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance (Cap. 138). The maximum penalty is a fine of HK$100,000 and imprisonment for two years.
