Speaker of the People's Assembly, Hammoudeh Sabbagh, met today with the Vice-President of the Iranian-Syrian Parliamentary Friendship Association in the Islamic Shura Council in Iran, Dr. Abbas Kalrou and the accompanying parliamentary delegation, who came to Syria to express their solidarity with its people and stand by them in the face of the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the devastating earthquake that struck a number of Syrian governorates.

During the meeting, which took place in the Martyrs' Hall in the People's Assembly building today, Sabbagh stressed the depth and strength of the historical relations that bind the two friendly countries, expressing the feelings of gratitude and gratitude of the Syrian people to Iran for standing by them in alleviating the effects of the human tragedy that befell it as a result of the devastating earthquake that hit a number of people. For his part, Chloro, on behalf of the Shura Council, offered his deepest condolences to Syria and its people for the earthquake victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured and reaffirming his country's support and solidarity with Syria in facing the repercussions of this humanitarian catastrophe. He valued Syria's principled stances in support of Iran and its just causes.

The head of the delegation stated that the aim of the visit is to further develop relations at all levels, especially parliamentary ones, and to show solidarity with Syria and increase coordination and joint cooperation with it to move forward in relief operations for those affected by the earthquake, pointing out that the delegation will make tours to the earthquake-affected governorates to see the damages in the regions. the afflicted, and prepare reports on that and submit them to the Iranian presidency in order to work to alleviate the suffering of the Syrians and help them as much as possible.

For their part, members of the Syrian-Iranian Friendship Committee and members of the Council stressed the need to continue working to strengthen and develop relations between the parliaments of the two countries, intensifying visits and exchanging experiences, thanking Iran for standing by Syria, whether in the face of terrorism or the ordeal of the devastating earthquake.

In turn, the members of the Iranian delegation saluted the Syrian people and the souls of the martyrs of the axis of resistance, stressing the continuation of this approach until the final victory over terrorism and its supporters who seek to sow division and discord among the peoples of the region.

In a statement to reporters after the meeting, Claro confirmed that work is being pursued with the Iranian government on the issue of extending the work of the Iranian credit line, calling for continuing to enhance cooperation in the parliamentary, economic and trade fields.

For her part, the deputy head of the Syrian-Iranian Friendship Committee in the People's Assembly, Dr. Haifa Jumaa, praised Iran's positions in support of Syria in all fields, pointing out that the parliamentary relations between the People's Assembly and the Iranian Islamic Shura Council are in continuous development and progress in the interest of the two friendly countries and peoples.

From the Syrian side, the meeting was attended by members of the Council’s bureau, members of the Syrian-Iranian Friendship Committee, and a number of members of the Council. The Iranian delegation included, in addition to Kalro, a member of the Iranian-Syrian Parliamentary Friendship Association, Dr. Shura Council, in addition to the Iranian ambassador to Damascus, Mahdi Sobhani.

The delegation had met earlier today with the vice-chairman and members of the Syrian-Iranian Friendship Committee in the People's Assembly, and during the meeting they discussed ways to strengthen the Syrian-Iranian parliamentary relations and upgrade them to reach the level of distinguished political relations between the two friendly countries.
