Against the background of protests all over the country, the president will deliver a speech • Earlier, Netanyahu canceled his arrival to the event in light of the National Day of Disruptions

"We are in a difficult time of internal crisis":

this is what the President of the State said today (Wednesday) at an event in honor of the completion of the Havilim course when he referred to the difficult political tensions surrounding the legal reform.

He explained that the current crisis is the opportunity to strengthen Israeli democracy by reaching a broad consensus on the changes.

Earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled his participation in the ceremony due to the escalation of protests against his government.

Netanyahu was supposed to participate in the ceremony together with Defense Minister Yoav Galant and in light of the protests decided to cancel his participation.

"The State of Israel, Israeli society, all of us - are in a difficult time of an internal, deep and serious crisis that threatens us all.

It threatens Israel's internal resilience and solidarity," said President Herzog with concern during the ceremony.

"This: I hear your voice, my brothers and sisters, the voices of patriotic Israeli citizens eager for Israeli democracy. I see the protest, the anxiety and the fear emanating from the depths of your hearts - a fear that I also expressed regarding the legislation as it is being presented now.

"We may degenerate into a terrible abyss and on the other hand we can reach a solution with a broad consensus. I will not let our State of Israel - of all of us - reach the point of no return. I am anxious for our common fate. Anxious for our country.

"Giving up or giving up is an easy solution, but it is not a work plan. I believe with all my heart that this moment of crisis can be turned into a defining constitutional moment. A moment in which our democracy, the principles of the Declaration of Independence, the rule of law, and human rights will be preserved for generations , and the checks and balances between the authorities.

"I believe that it is possible to turn the burning ground under our feet into a fertile land ripe for agreements - which will bring stability to the State of Israel for years and generations, and will reflect in the most profound way the democratic and Jewish principles of our country - which appear clearly and bindingly in the Declaration of Independence," said the President.
