The Directorate of Education in Homs called on its students of all grades and age levels, starting from the basic education cycle to secondary education, to participate in the reading challenge competition in its seventh season.
The Assistant Director of Education for Secondary Education in the Directorate of Education, Firas Ayyash, indicated to SANA reporter that a main committee had been formed in the directorate, which includes a number of stakeholders and specialists in the Arabic language. With the aim of providing the necessary data and securing a specialized information staff to enter the students’ data necessary for participation.
In turn, the coordinator of the Ministry of Education for the competition, Yara Haidar, explained that participation in this season will be on a larger scale, in order to gain the necessary experience in how to deal with students on the ground, adding: The competition takes place in four stages, the first at the school level, then the governorate, then the country, In which the final number is chosen to participate in the final stage in the UAE.
Haidar indicated that the number of schools registered for the competition is 230 schools, while the number of students has reached more than 1,300 students, and registration is still ongoing, and work is being done to enter data in coordination with the Directorate of Education, as well as the use of school libraries, cultural centers and the Writers Union to obtain books. In addition to launching the initiative to exchange books between schools and the personal libraries of students’ families.
