The Buenos Aires mayor and presidential candidate reviews his management in his last speech as head of government.

The head of the Buenos Aires Government,

Horacio Rodríguez Larreta

, began the session this Wednesday in the Legislature with a speech that contains a review of his management and with a strong campaign tone.

The opening ceremony started at 8:40 a.m. in the session hall, where Larreta offers his last speech as head of government since his second term will end in December with the impossibility of renewing.

The Buenos Aires mayor covers the 16 years that he was in the local Executive (the first eight as Mauricio Macri's chief of staff and the rest as head of government) and the policies implemented with a focus on education, security and urban transformation.

"Like every year, I come with deep satisfaction for the great transformations that we have been achieving together. However, this is a different year. I have to admit that, in addition to enthusiasm, this is

my UPD

(Last First Day) as they now say guys. It makes me a little nostalgic. This 2023 is my last year in management of the City, it is a very emotional moment for me. I worked for more than 15 years every day, starting very early, to make everyone who live and visit the City, do it better every day", started Larreta.

"We faced an ambitious and transforming management. Challenges always moved us and we faced them with seriousness and commitment. We defended education. In 16 years of management we have improved people's lives," he added.

"Thanks to the blocks of the Legislature for building a space for dialogue and democratic coexistence where differences exist but never go against the responsibility of improving people's lives. Thanks to Mauricio (Macri) with whom we started these transformations and were able to deepen until today. And a very special thank you to the entire government team. The team is always the muscle of management," he said.

When speaking of "the road map" that the next administration will face, he prioritized education as the "most important" point.

In this regard, he pointed out: "It is the path to individual freedom and the best tool for anyone to progress based on effort and dedication. It equals opportunities.

A closed school is a tragedy.

Every day without classes deepens the differences. We fight for the future of the boys".

The head of the Buenos Aires Government highlighted the modernization of the curriculum and the recognition of teachers "increasing their training hours, creating the University of the City and reforming the Teaching Statute to recognize and value merit in the career."

In this sense, he exclaimed: "In this we are clear. Without good teachers, there are no good students or good schools."

"The education situation in Argentina is alarming. It is not improving. We must go deeper. We must be encouraged to face the most ambitious educational revolution in Argentine history," he added.
