Buenos Aires is experiencing a

historic Cruise season

, recovering pre-pandemic levels and projecting to exceed the 2019 record. It is in this context that Compañía Sud Americana de Dragados, a local subsidiary of Jan De Nul Group, has

deployed its technical capacity and its state-of-the-art ships to carry out the dredging and maintenance works necessary

to guarantee the navigability and operability of the Port of Buenos Aires.

The Compañía Sud Americana de Dragados was in charge of the works in the Port of Buenos Aires.

Contracted by the AGP, the company

completed this week the adaptation tasks in the Passage Canal and Turning Circle of the Port of Buenos Aires

, in which it is estimated that close to one million cubic meters of material were extracted.

The work was carried out by the Ortelius flagship dredge, equipped with an ultra-low emissions control system, called ULEv (Ultra Low Emissions vehicle), which makes it an "ecological dredge".

The Ortelius is 111.7 meters long and 24.6 meters wide.

It has 6,000 cubic meters of capacity, acts as a suction hopper dredger and can dredge to a maximum depth of 35 meters.

Recently built to European Union Stage V requirements and International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III standards, this vessel is powered by diesel-electric engines and features a two-stage catalytic filter system, which makes nitrogen oxides are harmless and with a soot filter that blocks the finest particles.

According to the report presented by the City Tourism Entity, the cruise season in Buenos Aires began recovering pre-pandemic activity levels and is

projected to exceed the 2019 record. More than 120 cruises are expected mobilizing more than 350,000 passengers

, an improvement compared to the 2018-2019 season, when 8% fewer vessels called.

The

season starts in October and lasts until April

.

Of the expected passengers, more than 70% are foreigners, especially from Brazil, the United States and Canada and Europe.

The daily cost of each passenger is estimated at 90.6 dollars, an important injection of foreign currency for the local economy.

In addition,

thanks to the work of Compañía Sud Americana de Dragados this year, larger vessels are arriving

: 47% of the calls will be cruise ships with more than 3,000 passengers.

In relation to the 2019-20 season, the calls of large ships will increase by 9% in 2022-23.

In this way, the

tourism sector has been showing a sustained recovery in Buenos Aires

and the port and cruise ships are one of the main gateways for foreign tourists who leave foreign currency, boosting the national economy.

Likewise, the

port of Buenos Aires is a strategic point for the country

, with an opportunity to expand and continue to grow, promoting port and maritime activity, one of the keys to the development and production of Argentina, and for this, Compañía Sud Americana de Dragados, with the support of the Jan De Nul Group, is positioned as a strategic ally to continue improving logistics, guaranteeing the navigability and connectivity of the country with the world.
