"
If she had been treated right away, it wouldn't have been serious
."
When the practitioner from the Mayenne hospital made this confession to Raymond on December 19, 2022 while examining his wife, the Mayenne had been trying to warn the emergency services for six days.
In vain.
Two weeks later, Alice, 80, died in Laval hospital of a pacemaker infection.
Her husband filed a complaint for "
failure to assist a person in danger
", France Bleu Mayenne learned on Wednesday.
The first call dates from December 14 in the morning.
In the nursing home where they live in Louverné, near Laval, the octogenarian wakes up unwell.
As she is prone to heart problems, Raymond is worried and calls 15. He is told that he must first be examined by a doctor to send an ambulance.
But the doctor refuses to come, saying he doesn't have time, says the 77-year-old Mayenne.
“
For six days, I called the Samu, I called the doctor back and no one came
,” he says.
"Are you waiting for her to die or what?"
The director of their health establishment, judging the situation abnormal, tries to intervene.
“
He told me he would take care of it and call them.
But no one ever wanted to come
, ”continues Raymond interviewed by France Bleu.
On the phone, the septuagenarian is impatient.
“
I said: the doctor doesn't want to come, so what do I do?
Are you waiting for her to die or what?
".
The attempts last until December 19.
The emergency services finally arrive, and take care of Alice to transport her to the hospital in Mayenne.
The doctor diagnoses a "
small infection
" in the pacemaker, but it is already spreading.
After a stint in cardiology, she died on January 2.
Disgusted, Raymond filed a complaint on January 25 against the Louverné health center and the Samu, attached to the Laval hospital.
The Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne gendarmerie has confirmed that it has opened an investigation for failure to assist a person in danger.
“
It's too serious.
I lost everything and I don't know if I'll be able to recover from it
,
”
says the Mayenne.
For his part, the director of the hospital center announced the establishment of an internal investigation to "
understand what happened
" and "
to prevent such facts from happening again
".
