Chinese Foreign Minister Chen Gang reaffirmed his country's rejection of Western sanctions against Russia and its support for the peace process to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
“During a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov today, Gang exchanged views on the Ukrainian crisis and affirmed support for the use of political methods to solve the crisis in Ukraine and opposition to measures that contribute to escalation,” TASS news agency quoted the Chinese Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement.
The Chinese foreign minister also pledged that his country will continue to play a constructive role in finding a solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
Earlier today, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, called on the international community to take a responsible stance and encourage the parties concerned to immediately return to the path of political settlement and resort to dialogue and consultation in pursuit of a comprehensive solution to the Ukrainian issue.
