2023-03-02T16:59:38.027Z

Gathered in a seminar in Casablanca, these researchers and practitioners dream of an international convention to put an end to this practice all over the world.

Repeal, wherever is authorized or tolerated, the practice of surrogate mothers: this is the objective set by a hundred lawyers, doctors and psychologists from 75 nationalities, and gathered in a seminar this Friday, February 3 in Casablanca, at the Morocco.

On the French side, this initiative is notably encouraged by Aude Mirkovic, lecturer in law and spokesperson for the association Juristes pour l'Enfance, who campaigned against the opening of medically assisted procreation to female couples, as well as against surrogacy.

Accompanied by a procession of researchers and practitioners from all over the world, Aude Mirkovic will open this seminar with Luis Ernesto Pedernera Reyna, former President of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and Suzanne Aho Assouma , former vice-president of the same institution.

Several presentations will follow aimed at shedding light on the subject through an anthropological and ethical look at the practice of surrogate mothers, as well as an approach from the field: the Cameroonian nurse Christian Totsie, president of the association Soigner la vie, will pronounce a conference on the concrete implementation of this practice on Third World women and its consequences in terms of the dignity of women.

Originally, it was a small group of experts who asked themselves how to concretely contribute to advancing the idea of an international commitment by States to protect women and children for surrogacy.

“, Details Aude Mirkovic on RCF, which insists on the international dimension of the subject.

To date, about fifteen countries authorize surrogacy, either in law or in fact (for lack of text aimed at penalizing it).

Some like Russia, Ukraine or some states in the United States do it unconditionally, others restrict it to national citizens only (to avoid creating international flows of tourists from rich countries to buy a GPA).

In France, the practice is prohibited but children born by surrogacy abroad and adopted by French people are registered in the civil status.

“Ethical surrogacy is a decoy”

As for Morocco, which hosts this seminar, the country is an example for the researchers expected in Casablanca on Friday because the legislation there very clearly prohibits this practice.

It is therefore here, in this world-famous city (the organizers want to imprint a name on their approach, to give it historical significance) that a hundred specialists on the subject will sign the "

Casablanca Declaration

", a text asking for the universal repeal of this practice.

"

The Casablanca Declaration,

detail the organizers

, stands out from other existing international initiatives in terms of surrogacy because it calls for the abolition and not the supervision of surrogacy: the signatories clearly want to say that surrogacy is intrinsically contrary to human dignity. human.

[...] Ethical surrogacy is a decoy because it does not exist and cannot exist.

Several of the signatories of the text, which

publishes exclusively, know this subject all the better as the practice is legal in their own country.

Thus the American Katy Faust, founder of the child protection association “

Them before us

”, or the Ukrainian academic Alla Kovalenko.

It was partly the light shed by the war in Ukraine on the practice of surrogacy in this country that convinced Aude Mirkovic of the need for international action.

The concern of certain sponsoring couples, awaiting the child carried by a Ukrainian woman at the time of the outbreak of hostilities, had then moved part of the opinion.

Revealing in broad daylight, for Aude Mirkovic,

A slavery
