Julianne Moore: 'When I was little, my mother made sure I didn't spend too much time outside in the sun'

2023-03-02T14:29:19.433Z

The heroine of the film Sharper takes on a new role: that of ambassador for the Hourglass cosmetics brand. Unvarnished confidences.

For Julianne Moore, wearing quality makeup and ensuring animal welfare should not be two irreconcilable criteria.

The Oscar-winning actress proves it in the new Satin Crème lipstick campaign from Hourglass, the American vegan cosmetics brand committed to the defense of animal rights.

In these photos, she demonstrates that you can have a very red and pigmented mouth without animal cruelty (the formula contains a vegan substitute for carmine, this red pigment widely used in the cosmetics industry produced from thousands of crushed female insects ).

“With this simple gesture, we already have the possibility of making a difference,” she says.

Before revealing the rest of her beauty routine.

What style of make-up do you like?

Julianne Moore.-

I'm lucky to work with professionals who do my makeup much better than myself!

What I learned from them is that makeup serves to enhance what you already have.

In everyday life, if I go out, I will always outline and flesh out my eyebrows.

A little foundation to harmonize my skin.

Mascara, and a bit of gloss or lipstick.

It all depends on what I do with my day.

Madame Figaro.-

What beauty products do you always carry in your bag?

Julianne Moore.-

Hourglass Unlocked Satin Crème Lipstick in Red 0, a very powerful and vibrant red color.

I always carry a toothbrush and dental floss.

My Biologique Recherche lip balm that I love, and my sunscreen.

Madame Figaro.-

The best beauty advice you have received?

Julianne Moore.-

Probably wear sunscreen and stay as far away from the sun as possible.

It was passed down to me from my mother.

When I was little, she made sure I didn't spend too much time outside in the sun.

I even got to a point where I couldn't stand it anymore!

I almost always wear a hat, walk on the sidewalk in the shade, and cover up at the beach.

It may seem restrictive, but it's not.

I really see the difference on my skin now, so I try to pass this advice on to everyone around me.

Madame Figaro.-

How do you take care of your red hair?

Julianne Moore.-

The color I am currently wearing is semi-permanent.

It wears off, so I have to apply it more regularly than other hair color, but I like the way the product reacts with my hair.

It doesn't damage them at all and the effect is very natural.

Also, my hair is very curly and dry, so I try not to clean it too often.

Madame Figaro.-

What do you like most about yourself?

Julianne Moore.-

What I love most about my body is that it's still pretty much intact!

I still feel physically “capable” and that's something I've really come to appreciate.

I can move quickly, I'm quite flexible, I have strength.

These are all things that matter most to me.

Madame Figaro.-

What is your favorite perfume?

Julianne Moore.-

I've been wearing Kiehl's Musk eau de toilette for twenty years, I love it.

It smells very good, it is very “clean”.

After all these years, this perfume has really become a part of me.

I wear it every day.

Madame Figaro.-

A hairstyle or a daring make-up that you would dream of trying?

Julianne Moore.-

I would love to shave my head!

It's crazy, isn't it?

I'm curious to see what that would look like.

I know some actresses have already done it, even if it was just for a role.

When I was in college, I cut my hair really, really short and loved it, but the regrowth was unmanageable, so I swore to myself that I would never do it again.

It takes years to grow back, so I don't know if I'd take the plunge, but I've always secretly wanted to test it out to see what it would do.

Madame Figaro.-

A gesture of beauty that helps you boost your self-confidence?

Julianne Moore.-

Probably do my hair, because my hair can really get carried away!

I know I can feel better just by having my hair groomed.

And when you feel good physically, it helps to feel good emotionally.

Madame Figaro.-

Your sports routine?

Julianne Moore.-

I have been doing a lot of yoga for about twenty years.

I started small and it became more and more important in my life.

It allows me to relax, to clear my mind, to awaken me.

Since the pandemic, many of my classes have moved online, which can be challenging, but which is also great when I travel.

I can follow the session with my teacher wherever I am and it gives me consistency.

It's fantastic.

I think the best exercise is the one you practice, when you find what you like it's easier to stick with it.

Madame Figaro.-

Your relaxation ritual after a long day at work?

After dinner I take a bath with espsom salt, I find it very relaxing.

I will read a book or watch a movie with my husband.

And that's all !

I like to have some quiet time at home.

Madame Figaro.-

Your good beauty addresses?

Julianne Moore.-

I have two great facialists.

Fabricio Ormonde in New York which is really wonderful.

And Teresa Tarmey in London, whom I love too.

They both use radio frequency.

I really see a big difference in my face thanks to them.
