The accommodation and care of refugees poses great challenges for the municipality of Lenggries.

Lenggries –

The accommodation of asylum seekers presents Lenggries with major challenges.

The community is currently housing 127 refugees - not including the Ukrainians who live in private accommodation.

In order to meet the quota based on the number of inhabitants, the municipality of Lenggries would have to take in another 49 people.

This was announced by the Tölz district office.

On average, 50 asylum seekers are assigned to the district every two weeks.

"Another wave of refugees is rolling towards us," said Mayor Stefan Klaffenbacher (FWG) at the most recent Lenggrieser municipal council meeting.

All municipalities are therefore required to report land and buildings.

According to Klaffenbacher, occupancy of gymnasiums should be “the very last resort”.

Another wave of refugees is rolling towards us.

Mayor Stefan Klaffenbacher

Tobias Riesch, managing director of the town hall, reported to the municipal council on Monday that they had already spoken to the former volunteer coordinator Annette Ehrhart about the requirements for suitable plots of land or houses.

Ehrhart recommends the proximity to a supermarket or grocery store and within walking distance of kindergartens.

Riesch reminded that children of asylum seekers are entitled to a place in kindergarten within three months.

This put the municipality of Lenggries “in front of a currently unsolvable task”.

Schooling is also compulsory for the children of asylum seekers.

Lenggries: Place according to the assessment of the municipal administration also on Geiersteinstrasse

As early as November 2014, the municipality of Lenggries reported several suggestions for accommodation options for refugees to the district.

This also included the property of the Free State south of the river master station on Wegscheider Straße.

Riesch recalled that in October 2015 the municipal council approved a preliminary decision for a container facility with a good 80 spaces.

However, the application was withdrawn by the district because "the area is needed for other purposes".

Since five years later there is still no other use, the municipality proposes this property again.

Up to 100 accommodations could be shown there in a container system or in an air dome.

According to the municipal administration, there is also space on Geiersteinstrasse.

The container system there on the almost 3000 square meter property could be increased.

According to the assessment of the town hall, the 2000 square meter municipal property on Urtlmühlweg opposite the Penny market is only suitable to a limited extent.

However, the development plan that is still valid provides for a special area for tourism in this area.

Volunteers needed

The municipal property on the hospital meadow is completely out of the question because the nursing home will be built there.

And in the community part of the barracks, refugee accommodation failed due to the lack of infrastructure: According to Riesch, the water pipes must have rusted through.

In addition, thieves have stolen the copper from the electrical wiring and the windows and doors are broken.

Riesch: "We have to look at the building as a shell."

New volunteers are needed to look after the refugees.

The previous circle of helpers "is overaged," said Riesch when asked by Sabine Gerg (SPD).

All volunteers are of retirement age and some have been accompanying the refugees since 2015, says Riesch.

There is hardly any willingness for new support.

The mayor therefore announced that they would speak to Annette Ehrhart about how to reactivate the group of helpers.

The container facility south of the river control post should have priority

Municipal councilor Birgitta Opitz drew attention to the major communication difficulties from her experience with the board: "We often have to communicate with translation programs on our cell phones because people come into the country whose language they cannot read." At the suggestion of Deputy Mayor Franz Schöttl (CSU), the municipal council decided to prioritize.

A container facility south of the river master station should therefore have priority.

The second priority is to increase the existing facility on Geiersteinstrasse.

And finally, the municipality proposes the property on Urtlmühlweg.

The resolution was passed with two dissenting votes.
