Mobile health teams continue to monitor the cases of those affected by the earthquake

Mobile medical response teams in the Lattakia Health Directorate, with the support of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, continue to follow up on cases

Health services for those affected by the earthquake inside and outside the shelters, by sending mobile medical teams on a daily basis to secure all the necessary medical needs for those affected and provide them with a medical plan.

The head of the Public Health Programs Department in the Lattakia Health Directorate and the head of the mobile medical teams, Dr. Wafa Halloum, explained that the number of mobile teams covering all regions of the province reached 29, and the first launch was in cooperation with well-trained and qualified local volunteer associations and teams.

She indicated that the mobile medical teams visited more than 109 shelters, during which more than ten thousand affected families were examined and health services were provided to them.

Halloum indicated that the Lattakia governorate is divided into six health regions, in each of which a mobile medical team departs to the shelters or places where the affected people gather.

In her turn, Dr. Janan Rahal, responsible for the Child and Vaccine Program, explained that the vaccine has been provided to more than 900 children who are eligible for doses, in addition to monitoring the nutrition of children and pregnant and breastfeeding women to avoid malnutrition.

For her part, the head of the mental health program and the head of the psychological division in the Lattakia Health Directorate, Dr. Rabab Shreiteh, stated that the psychological support team attached to the medical team consists of two specialized doctors with four members trained in psychological first aid, noting that the needs of those affected have been met and psychological aid services have been provided.

Shreiteh said that mental health services have begun to specialize, bringing the number of cases monitored from 623 to 23,786 in all shelters, and psychiatric medications are provided to patients after being prescribed by the specialist doctor.

Nutrition Programs Officer in the Public Health Programs Department of the Lattakia Health Directorate, Dr. Siham Mustafa, explained that a nutritional survey was conducted for children whose ages range from six months to five years, and for breastfeeding and pregnant women, by measuring the circumference of the upper arm. Cases of malnutrition were monitored in some women, and treatment was provided. Appropriate medicines, vitamins and food baskets that help improve their health status to continue the process of breastfeeding.
