On the occasion of World Hearing Day, the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Damascus held today a service awareness event under the title (Ear care and hearing for all... Let's make it a reality), in the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the university.

The event, which was carried out by the students of the Departments of Audiology and Speech and Language Orthodontics at the College of Health Sciences, included an educational aspect through meeting with students, professors and employees, providing them with guidance and advice in this field, introducing them to the conditions of safe listening and how to use the sound effects of the Internet and social networking sites in a safe way through breaks or Protecting the ear from noise, and another service aspect by conducting an audiological examination by both methods of the aural audio transmitter and regular audiogram using a scanning method.

The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Damascus University, Dr. Zuhair Marmar, explained in a statement to SANA that the goal of the event is to serve students and society as a whole, by spreading awareness culture on this subject and emphasizing the importance of early detection of hearing problems to facilitate their treatment later according to the best methods and methods, as the periodic procedure The audio survey helps a lot in this matter, and protects everyone in the future.

Dr. Samer Mohsen, Deputy Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Head of the Department of Audiology, Speech and Language Correction, stated that the World Health Organization’s expectations indicate that two and a half billion people on the globe will suffer from hearing loss by the end of 2030, and this is a huge percentage, almost a third of the world’s population, due to the behaviors of Wrong life, widespread diseases, dangerous professions, wars, unsafe listening, exposure to noise and loud sounds.

Dr. Mohsen pointed out the necessity of not taking medicines without a prescription, avoiding toxic medicines, exposure to noise, treating ear, nose and throat diseases, allergic infections and nasal problems in a timely manner, and not waiting for them, and conducting periodic examinations of children, people with special professions and the elderly.

Among the students participating in the event, Majed Al-Akkad, a fourth year major in speech and language evaluation, stressed the need to work on spreading awareness of the commitment to safe listening to reduce hearing deficiency, indicating that the students participating in the event are trained by specialists to conduct the auditory survey test for auditors, and in the event that they do not pass the test You must be referred to a specialized audiology clinic for a full examination.

Third-year student Maryam Wahba showed that the audiological examination is painless, simple, safe, and fast, and reveals the presence or absence of a hearing problem, noting the students’ interaction with the event and their willingness to conduct the examination and listen to the advice provided, such as the need to use earplugs in noisy places, not to be exposed to professional noise, and to avoid Handling earphones from one person to another because it leads to the transfer of germs, and not using cotton swabs to clean the ears, which leads to pushing cerumen into the ear canal.

It is noteworthy that the World Health Organization has set the third of March of each year to hold awareness and educational activities and events, to enhance measures to prevent hearing loss and improve its care.
