Four raw concrete houses clinging to the hill, a maze of partitions and patios, huge bay windows, open views over the arid soil of the Alentejo, then the Atlantic horizon.
Welcome to Pa.te.os, a project by the great Portuguese architect Manuel Aires Mateus in Melides: "
we wanted to wipe the slate clean, imagine a contemporary ensemble that would naturally make the link between interior and exterior, offering a new way of living in Alentejo
», Confide Sofia and Miguel Charter, the entrepreneurs at the initiative of this concept.
This is not their first collaboration for the couple and the architect.
Each time, the architectural emotion is at the rendezvous: "
we want every visitor to feel the power of architecture, of hand-crafted concrete.
Here at Pa.te.os, nothing is hidden, each element is reduced to its most essential form: the crosspieces are placed on the ground, the infinity pool reflects the sky, the cut walls frame the view”, explains
the duo in life as in the city.

Between concrete and endemic vegetation
The owners called on the Portuguese architect Manuel Aires Mateus, known for his minimalist and sculptural approach.

The magic of the architecture works: between century-old cork oaks, glowing earth and scattered endemic vegetation, you stroll through Pa.te.os as you would discover a private house signed Tadao Ando or Peter Zumthor.
We settle into the minimalist - but luxurious - interiors, take a shower outside, live to the rhythm of the sun which cuts out the shadows and floods the patios and vast living rooms with light.
A tailor-made service – breakfast, laundry, concierge service and massages on request – ensures that nothing is missed.
We would almost forget the passage of time.
