A 15-year-old Palestinian boy was killed Thursday night by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said.

"Muhammad Nidal Salim, 15, was killed by bullets in the back of occupation soldiers (Israeli) in the town of Azzun",

in the center of the West Bank, the ministry said in a statement.

Two other people were injured, including a child in critical condition, according to the ministry, which does not specify the circumstances of this incident.

Resurgence of violence

Contacted by AFP, the Israeli army did not comment on this information immediately.

The death comes amid an upsurge in violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, particularly in the West Bank, which has been occupied by Israel since the 1967 Six-Day War. On Sunday, the Palestinian town of Huwara was attacked by Israeli settlers, some hours after two young settlers, brothers Yagel Yaniv, 20, and Hallel Yaniv, 22, were shot dead as they drove through the northern West Bank town.

Dozens of furious settlers torched houses and cars and threw rocks in the city throughout the night.

Since the beginning of the year, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has claimed the lives of 65 Palestinian adults and children, combatants and civilians.

Thirteen Israeli adults and children, including members of the security forces and civilians, as well as a Ukrainian woman, were killed during the same period, according to an AFP tally based on official sources from both sides.
