Today, the Central Command of the National Progressive Front held an extraordinary meeting chaired by Major General Muhammad al-Shaar, Vice President of the Front.

Major General Al-Shaar indicated that today's meeting comes to stand up to the effects of the devastating earthquake and its repercussions on the stricken governorates, noting the initiatives that the country witnessed after President Bashar al-Assad called the government to meet immediately after the earthquake occurred and directed it to play its role, form relief committees, visit the stricken governorates, and see directly the effects of the earthquake. The catastrophe and its consequences mitigated its impact on the Syrian people.

Major General Al-Shaar drew attention to the touching speech that President Al-Assad addressed to the Syrian people, thanking him for the individual and collective initiatives and brotherly and friendly countries for standing by the Syrians in their ordeal and calling for lifting the unjust siege imposed by the West on Syria.

For his part, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Eng. Hilal Al-Hilal, spoke about what the central leadership of the party did and the coordination with the various activities and through the branches of the National Progressive Front in the governorates by conducting aid convoys on behalf of the people of these governorates to Aleppo, Latakia and Hama, and the involvement of the Baath cadres and the parties of the front in organized work.

Engineer Al-Hilal explained that the leadership took a decision to stop all activities and direct work regarding the disaster and its repercussions.

For his part, the Speaker of the People's Assembly, a member of the Central Command of the Front, Hamouda Sabbagh, explained the role that the Council, its institution and members, had had since the first hours of the earthquake, each in his governorate to provide aid to the afflicted, and referred to the relationship with Arab and foreign parliaments and regional and international parliamentary federations, and the telegrams that reached the Council Condolences, messages and communications expressing solidarity with the Syrian people, as well as receiving the Arab Parliament that was meeting in Baghdad and its visit to Syria and what they expressed in terms of standing by Syria and their collective decision on the need for Syria to return to the League of Arab States, and to exercise its national role in its Arab surroundings, in addition to receiving The Council is attended by solidarity parliamentary delegations from Lebanon, Iraq and Iran.

Sabbagh indicated that the Council sent letters to each of the heads of regional and international parliamentary unions, the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, urging the immediate and urgent lifting of all forms of unfair and unjust measures against the Syrian people 12 years ago, which had a role in obstructing relief operations to counter the effects of the devastating earthquake. Sabbagh referred to President Bashar al-Assad's reception of the Arab parliamentary delegations, and what characterized the meeting with them in terms of expressing the depth of the relationship with Syria and the desire for it to return to playing its main and pivotal role in the Arab world.

Hussein Arnous, a member of the Central Command of the Front, presented the government's plan to confront the effects of the earthquake and its repercussions, and implement President al-Assad's directives to form central and sub-committees for relief and the government's development of current, medium and long-term plans. The general secretaries of the front parties also talked about the role of the parties in confronting this catastrophe, and directed their questions to the Prime Minister, who answered all of these questions.

At the end of the meeting, the Vice President of the Front thanked the attendees for what they presented in this meeting, wishing everyone to continue implementing the programs set in the face of this disaster until our country recovers and ends with the repercussions of this catastrophe and its effects.
