The real coup d'etat Israel today

2023-03-02T21:59:26.457Z

The Aqaba conference renewed Israel's commitment to Oslo and the Ramallah terrorist organization • The ideological U-turn was led by Netanyahu, Gallant and Dermer - the new government • Now we will see what Smotrich and Ben Gvir will do who were left out

What would Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir do if they were members of a house committee, and would they find out that the chairman decided to change the location of the building's mailboxes without convening the committee and asking them? There is no doubt that each of them would have resigned immediately, or called for new elections for the committee the house

And here, Smotrich, Ben Gvir and their coalition members discovered to their astonishment about a week ago that while they entered a full right-wing government, the prime minister turned it into a Peres and Rabin government - the 2023 version. The government U-turn.

It appeared at an international conference under conditions of surrender, and delivered to Washington and Ramallah dramatic commitments, which contradict the world view, the basic lines and the agreements that established their coalition.

How the strong right-wing elements in the government will react to this - it will be interesting to see.

The news from the Aqaba Conference and the commitments made at it are deliberately vague, but what is unequivocally clear is that it renewed the oaths of loyalty to the Oslo Accords, the same catastrophe that is responsible for the chaotic situation that has prevailed in the YOS since the PLO was planted in the heart of the Land of Israel.

The new Israeli oaths to Oslo include a commitment to stop settlement in the coming months, tying the hands of the army in the war on terror, resuming the flow of funds to Abu Mazen's terrorist authority, while adding training to his soldiers, and most seriously - creating a mechanism in which the Americans will have a foothold in Israel's ongoing decisions against terrorism.

This is nothing less than a type of loss of independence.

Another conference is planned soon, where the hole that Israel is digging for itself will be deepened.

These decisions were made by Netanyahu, Gallant, Dermer and Negabi, along with the head of the Shin Bet and the Chief of Staff, in a forum that became the new government.

Israel's foreign, security and domestic policies are determined there.

This is a vehicle typical of any authoritarian regime, the vehicle that marks the real regime coup that took place here.

No wonder the Minister of National Security was not invited on Sunday to an important meeting on national security matters following the events in Hawara.

He is not part of the country's leadership, not even a secret accomplice, unlike his commissioner, who was complicit in what took place there.

And in any case, this new regime works opposite to the world view of the Israeli right.

And they rightly pointed out this week the fact that the previous government, including Mansor Abbas and Meretz in it, functioned to the right of the current Netanyahu government.

Especially when Bennett and Shaked were in the lead, she firmly refused to take part in a surrender conference, such as the one held this week in Aqaba.

Limited liability partnership

Later this week, Natan Eshel was sent to a new mission in the enemy's rear, preparing the ground for a change of men in the coalition.

Against this background, it was hard not to recall the famous article that Eshel himself published in the "Haaretz" newspaper in June 2019, in which he praised the integration of Israeli Arabs into the state's leadership.

Later it turned out that the article was part of the course of secret talks that his boss, Netanyahu, had at the time with Mansor Abbas, promising him mountains and hills.

Then, as now, Netanyahu is building an inclusive and sophisticated alternative coalition, facing Lapid, Gantz and especially journalists and their voters.

On the agenda - the elimination of the legal reform and any sign of a right-wing government in exchange for lifting the boycott on Netanyahu and getting on board the coalition.

Meanwhile, Yair Lapid aligns himself with the demonstrations of anarchist madness, which block Ayalon and tear society apart, and Benny Gantz refuses to join the coalition.

So how is it that Binyamin Netanyahu allows himself to crush every commitment he gave in writing to his partners on the right, while also whistling at most of the Likud members themselves?

As emerges from the mouths of Bibi's court reporters, he believes that his partners have no choice.

He did sign commitments that are the opposite of what he is fulfilling now, but he never committed to stop being Netanyahu.

That is - the man whose commitment or signature has no meaning, who is committed to the spirit of Oslo.

After a hesitant opening move, in the last two weeks the leader of the strong right was frightened by the reactions of the Americans and the left, and therefore cut strongly to the left.

Estimates that the jobs and budgets will keep all the partners on board, until he decides who he throws and who he leaves in an inferior position.

He works on the alternative with Natan Eshel and gave up his spin generators.

Although this week Ben Gabir got angry, Maoz resigned, Parush protested, but the ultra-Orthodox received a 40 percent increase in the amount of the salaries that the coalition pays them, and Smotrich and Ben Gabir are enjoying the spotlight.

And as for Likud members, Netanyahu is convinced that everyone who received a job will obey and keep quiet.

In the meantime, the ruling government and the strength of the hand led to rising murderous terrorism, while irresponsibly managing the legal reform, and met with the madness and violence of the protest leaders from the left.

In any case, now, when it is already clear that this government is not a right-wing government - not on the security, political, or settlement level - it is not clear what is the point of continuing its tenure.

A look at the US

A week of meetings I conducted with lawyers, businessmen and local politicians in the US strongly illuminates the falsehood of the claims that the legal reform will harm our status in the world, and especially will crash the Israeli economy. Many of my interlocutors heard in the media about the turmoil in Israel, but did not understand what and why.

And here, the person to whom I described what the legal coup of the 1990s brought about between the authorities found it hard to believe, and everyone who understood what the reform proposed was amazed.

My interlocutors laughed at the claim that this is the end of democracy, certainly with regards to the claims about the way judges are chosen and the ability to invalidate laws.

The Americans, where judges are appointed by the politicians, public prosecutors run election campaigns, and verdicts are handed down by juries - it is difficult to convince that we are on the way to a dictatorship.

Indeed, American democracy, for all its flaws, engaged in its usual skirmishes this week as well, and in between continued to show resilience, look for working hands and grumble about inflation.

Anyway, please relax.

It is likely that American partners of Israeli businessmen who lost their tempers because of the incitement are worried.

But the concern stems from what is being broadcast to them from the Israeli side, and not from exposure to the facts.

Because in an American light, the outlines of the reform, without the elements of corruption in it, seem logical.

In general, the assessment of the Israeli economy and society in the US is solid. This week I did not encounter even the extreme zero of the prophecies of rage echoed by the protest leaders. I did encounter raised eyebrows regarding the demonstrations and riots themselves.

It is against this background that the extreme severity of what the leaders of the riots are doing is revealed.

Beyond the dismantling of Israeli society with threats of violence, accusations of terrorism and calls to refuse to serve, the attempt to harm Israel's political and economic status in the world, in order to subdue the coalition from the outside, is unforgivable.

It also omits the ground under the ability to stay with one.
