The radicalized detainee implicated for these facts, Franck Elong Abé, a 36-year-old Frenchman of Cameroonian origin, was serving several sentences, including one of nine years' imprisonment for "terrorist criminal association",

he attacked Yvan Colonna in the sports hall of the prison where he was serving a life sentence for the assassination of the prefect Claude Erignac in 1998.
