E-bikes are very popular in this country.

According to the Zweirad-Industrie-Verband (ZIV), around 6.7 million bicycles were sold in Germany in 2021, 43 percent of which were e-bikes.

Stiftung Warentest tested nine different SUV e-bikes.

These special models offer a number of advantages over conventional e-bikes.

The big disadvantage is that they are quite expensive.

The wheels tested by Stiftung Warentest are available from a retail price of 3,000 euros.

The cheapest SUV e-bike is around.

3,000 euros (CubeNuride Hybrid EXC 625 Allroad), the most expensive even costs 5,549 euros (FlyerGoroc2 2.10).

In addition to driving behavior and drive, handling, safety and durability were also tested.

In addition, Stiftung Warentest tested how waterproof the display, motor and battery are.

The experts also examined the grips and saddles for harmful substances.

We present the three most convincing e-bikes that were rated “Good” by Stiftung Warentest.

Stiftung Warentest has also tested bicycle locks, you can find the best models here.

What is an SUV e-bike?

Sport utility vehicle e-bikes, abbreviated SUV e-bikes, also known as all-road or crossover e-bikes are a hybrid of e-mountain bikes, city and trekking e-bikes.

They are characterized by their multifunctionality.

With the powerful SUV e-bikes you are optimally equipped for both the terrain and the city.

What are characteristics of SUV e-bikes?

SUV e-bikes are not as manoeuvrable as city bikes and do not cover the same off-road routes as mountain bikes - nevertheless they combine important properties from both worlds.

The bikes are characterized by the following features:

  • permanently installed and stable mudguard and/or luggage rack

  • powerful lighting and permanently installed light

  • wide tires and suspension

  • powerful batteries

  • particularly powerful engines

The very manoeuvrable bike rides well throughout, even with luggage – however, KTM only allows a load of 10 kilos.

The best gearshift in the test works very well uphill and is jerk-free thanks to the specially formed gears.

Powerful, very well graded Bosch motor, but was loud under load.

The 625 watt-hour battery charges quickly and is easy to insert from the top.

Generally best handling.

The 150 lux lighting system is great.
