Police warn of new scam.
Gilching
- A 63-year-old woman from Gilching has become the victim of a new scam on the Internet sales platform Ebay and has lost 4000 euros as a result.
This is reported by the head of the responsible police inspection in Gauting, Andreas Ruch.
Accordingly, the woman had advertised a T-shirt for sale on Thursday.
An unknown perpetrator feigned interest via the Ebay news portal and got in touch with the Gilchingerin.
"He referred the woman to the payment function of the sales platform called 'pay securely', which would make it easier for buyers and sellers to pay and which would also be advertised on the sales platform itself," says Ruch.
The woman agreed to the suggestion.
The perpetrator then sent her an email with a link – and this led the 63-year-old to a fake site.
There the woman entered the necessary credit card data, i.e. her name, the expiry date and the check digit.
"Instead of having the sales price of 17 euros including shipping transferred to her account, as she had expected, she was shocked to find that three debits were made from her account for a total of 4000 euros," says Ruch.
In order to prevent further debits, the woman had her credit card blocked and reported to the police.
The warns: "If you offer something for sale on the Internet, never give your own credit card details to a prospective buyer for the payment process."
