Today, China renewed its strong opposition to the sale of US weapons to Chinese Taiwan, stressing that they constitute a serious threat to peace and stability in the region.
"The US arms sales seriously violate the one-China principle and the Three Joint Communiques between China and the United States, especially August 17 statement.
"His country is firmly opposed to those sales, which seriously undermine China's sovereignty and security interests and pose a serious threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," Keefe said.
"We urge the United States to stop arms sales to Taiwan and military contacts with it, and stop interfering in the Taiwan issue and provoking cross-Strait tensions," Keefe said.
"The Chinese People's Liberation Army is always ready to take countermeasures against all kinds of provocations seeking the so-called Taiwan independence, external interference, and safeguarding China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Keifi stressed.
Yesterday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called on the United States to stop selling arms to Taiwan, cut off military contacts with it, and adhere to the one-China principle.
