The youth council has developed a solution for the closed dirt park on the Böhmwiese.

A pump track made of asphalt is to be built there.

Cost: 200,000 euros.

Geretsried – The derelict dirt park on the Böhmwiese is to be converted into a pump track.

As reported, the youth council had prepared the project in detail.

In the session on Tuesday, the members Isabella Schrills, Sabrina Lorenz and Jonathan Kübler presented their idea to the city council - and convinced the committee.

Pump track replaces closed dirt park in Geretsried

The dirt park in Geretsried has been closed for over two years due to safety deficiencies after heavy rain.

"It is not foreseeable whether it can be made usable again," Lorenz explained the problem.

According to Schrills, 40 percent of the young people surveyed by the youth council would like the reopening.

30 percent would be open to a pump track as an alternative.

Such a circuit would have advantages in the eyes of the young politicians.

"The maintenance costs would be minimal," said Schrills, referring to the construction (see box).

And "through broader usage options, we can reach a larger target group," added Lorenz.

There are many opportunities for physical activity in the city.

The majority, however, is linked to a club, which means that it is only possible at certain times and involves costs.

The young people consider the location of the pump track to be ideal.

There are no problems with noise emissions.

"The project does not stand in the way of the plans to relocate the B11 and extend the S7," says Lorenz.

The facility would offer young people a meeting place in nature.

"There are few places for young people to meet," agreed city councilor Sabine Lorenz (CSU) of the idea.

Her parliamentary colleague Hans Ketelhut agreed that there must be an opportunity for the adolescents.

As the "father of an enthusiastic user of the skate park in Waldram", Martin Huber from the CSU also signaled his support.

Pump track made of asphalt should remain in Geretsried for a long time

There were concerns about the sealing by asphalt.

Martina Raschke's (Greens) question about size has not yet been answered.

"You can do it differently," explained city youth worker Julia Brandner.

Heidi Dodenhöft (Free Voters) also disliked the sealing, but she also found something positive about the construction.

"Asphalt is durable." And Sabrina Lorenz assured that the youth council had thought of compensation areas.

The junior committee would like to set up usage regulations for the pump track.

Some city councilors still struggled with the liability issue.

He had already ridden a pump track himself, reported Dr.

Elmar Immertreu (Geretsrieder list).

"It's fun, but it's not without its dangers," he pointed out.

The city cannot accept responsibility for this.

“You have to take a close look at the question of liability,” emphasized Dr.

Detlev Ringer (Greens).

Gerhard Meinl (CSU) agreed.

However, with a view to comparable projects in other municipalities, he said: "We don't have to reinvent the wheel."

Pumptrack may cost a maximum of 200,000 euros

Volker Reeh (Geretsrieder Liste) took a similar view.

He supported the wish of the youth (“great idea”).

However, Reeh pleaded for a financial cap – with a view to the Wolfratshauser surfing wave project, which was finally buried last year after a long period of planning due to several cost increases.

The youth council expects that the construction of the pump track will cost 200,000 euros.

He would like to raise half of it with the help of grants.

"It's always nice when there is a subsidy, but we think gross in the budget," said Meinl.

He formulated the decision to build a new pump track on the site of the old dirt park “for a maximum investment of 200,000 euros, spread over two budget years.

Funding is being sought for this.” All city councilors raised their hands for this.

Because of the asphalting, the valid development plan has to be changed.

The youth council aims to start construction in 2023/2024.

Key word: pump track

A pump track is a circuit with undulating asphalt jumps on which the driver can efficiently accelerate by pumping his vehicle.

The higher his speed, the higher the difficulty level.

Pump tracks can be used not only with mountain bikes and BMX bikes, but also with other bikes, inline skates, skateboards, scooters and even running bikes.

In contrast to pump tracks, dirt parks are not made of asphalt but of natural materials such as earth, clay and wood.

The hilly off-road route is suitable for mountain bikers and BMX riders.
