Update, 7.36 a.m .:

Like yesterday, Thursday, March 2nd, little or nothing works in Munich’s public transport today.

Only the S-Bahn runs normally, it is not involved in the strike.

As a reporter reported to tz.de in the early morning, there are now problems there too.

The S8 in the direction of Herrsching is at Stachus, at around half past seven there was an announcement: "Unfortunately, there was a personal accident at the main station" It is not known how long the problem will last.

So even S-Bahn drivers have to be patient this morning.

Strike in Munich: Almost nothing works on Friday either - S-Bahn problems reported

Update from March 3, 6:06 a.m .:

The warning strikes in Bavaria continue.

Public transport in Munich was already on strike on Thursday (see previous updates).

For Friday, Verdi has called for all-day warning strikes in local public transport in Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, Ingolstadt, Bamberg and Bayreuth.

In the case of Nuremberg, this will also affect Erlangen and Fürth.

There are also numerous warning strikes in the public sector.

Collective bargaining is currently taking place in both areas.

Trams and subways in Munich were almost completely out of action on Thursday, and about half of the buses.

S-Bahn and regional trains, on the other hand, were not affected.

It could look similar this Friday.

In Nuremberg, the subway will remain closed on Friday.

In the case of buses, at least some of the vehicles will be in use in most of the affected cities - these are often regional lines or school buses that are operated by private companies.

The warning strikes in the public sector on Friday will affect, among other things, garbage disposal and recycling centers in Munich.

In Regensburg, Verdi wants to hit the public utilities, the energy and water supply and also the baths with warning strikes.

The warning strikes have been going on here for a long time and are to be gradually increased by the end of March.

At the same time, there will be Fridays for Future demonstrations in more than 30 Bavarian cities on Friday.

In Munich, strikers from public transport will also take part - the climate protectionists and Verdi had already expressed their mutual support in the run-up to the strike, with the issue of sufficient financing for public transport being particularly important.

Strike in Munich - Fridays for Future with demos

Update, 8:19 p.m .:

The strike in Munich continues on Friday, similar failures in public transport are to be expected as on Thursday.

This time, however, not only Munich is affected.

The Verdi union has also called for all-day warning strikes in local public transport in Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, Ingolstadt, Bamberg and Bayreuth.

An action by a climate group, which blocked buses during the strike to prevent non-striking drivers from exiting, caused a stir on Thursday.

The Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann, expressed his anger at the action.

Climate groups also want to support the strikes in Munich on Friday.

Fridays for Future is planning a large demonstration that will also include strikers.

The organization expects 4,000 to 8,000 participants in Munich.

However, their arrival is likely to be hampered by the warning strike.

Likewise, all night tram lines, night buses only run to a very limited extent.

Update, 3:22 p.m .:

The garbage disposal is also on strike from today.

The Verdi union has called on all employees of the Munich waste management company (AWM) to do so.

All recycling centers and the used goods department store in Hall 2 will remain closed until Saturday, March 4th.

Up to and including Friday, mostly no bins are emptied.

The recyclables and poison mobile are also not driving.

Parts of the administration are also affected.

The AWM therefore asks all residents in Munich for their understanding and to generate as little waste as possible.

As the MVG lets you know, the operation of the U6 line has been discontinued.

Surprisingly, the line ran every 10 minutes in the morning, but due to insufficient staff, the journeys have now ended again.

According to MVG, 35 of 500 drivers are currently still in use in the driving service (underground, bus and tram).

All routes of the Mittlerer Ring are already marked "red".

"It's significantly more than usual," confirms the reporter.

Subways and trams are standing still in Munich today, and on average only every second bus is currently running.

Update, 7.15 a.m .:

The rush hour in Munich is rolling.

A look at the current traffic jam situation via Google Maps shows what the ADAC,

among others,

had feared: many Munich residents switched to the car at the start of the strike.

All sections of the Mittlerer Ring are currently heavily used.

In some sections it is only stop and go, in other parts, such as the Georg-Brauchle Ring, the cars are parked on Thursday morning (as of 7:18 a.m.).

From the start of operations on Thursday morning, the Verdi union asked its employees to go on a two-day walkout.

The action is intended to put pressure on the collective bargaining, in which the trade union for Munich is demanding a significant increase in wages and alignment with the area collective agreement.

In addition, Verdi demands that politicians better equip public transport for the traffic turnaround.

Subway, buses and trams: strike in Munich public transport - appeal to commuters

The S-Bahn, which is operated by Deutsche Bahn, as well as regional trains and buses are not affected by the strike.

The Munich transport company MVG called for buses, subways and trams to be avoided on both days.

For safety reasons, the subway will initially not go into operation on Thursday.

Whether individual subways and trams will run later depends on the personnel situation, it said.

In the bus sector, about every second vehicle will be used and distributed across the entire network.

Here it is noticeable that bus cooperation partners of MVG are not affected by the warning strike.

Who pays wages during a strike?

What you need to know about strike pay

If work is stopped and the workforce is on strike, the employer no longer has to pay wages.

As a rule, so-called strike money is paid in such cases.

This then comes from the unions.

On Friday, the campaign will be extended to local transport.

Then the strike will also hit Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen, as well as Augsburg, Regensburg, Ingolstadt and Bamberg, because the collective bargaining agreement for local public transport is also currently being negotiated.

The union will also continue to put pressure on the parallel collective bargaining in the public sector on Thursday.

Among other things, garbage cans should remain in Munich and recycling centers should be affected.

Waste management should also be affected in Augsburg on Thursday.
