On February 18, Candela Jalabert found her sister Agostina, a popular 31-year-old Argentine

influencer

, dead in the bathroom of the model's house in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.

The young woman was hanged with a belt to the towel rack in the sink, according to statements by her father, Edgardo, in an interview with

Infobae.

Although at first the case was treated as a suicide, the family has denounced irregularities in the investigation by the Mexican Police and defends that their daughter was the victim of a femicide by her boyfriend, identified by the Argentine press as Juan Manuel Reverter.

“Her boyfriend was inside the apartment and did not allow entry.

That, at least, draws attention.

He did not communicate with us, he did not give an explanation or his version.

He didn't show his face.

Even if it was a suicide, why did he refuse to talk to us?

The police did not activate any investigative protocol, nor did they delay the man who was on the scene.

My daughter declared everything that happened, but shortly after he was free walking with his father through resorts on the Pacific coast, in San Francisco, near Puerto Vallarta, ”Edgardo Jalabert assured the Argentine media.

The victim's father also stated in statements to the Argentine channel TN that the autopsy reveals "injuries of all kinds", which for the family confirms the suspicions of femicide.

Reverter, who was not prosecuted by the Mexican authorities, is missing.

"Now he's gone and we don't know his whereabouts.

He never contacted us to give an explanation, since he was the person with whom he [Agostina] lived for the last two months.

The only information we have is that the father lives in Mexico, but they told me that [Reverter] went to Canada or New Zealand,” Edgardo Jalabert said in the interview.

Agostina Jalabert, from Carmen de Patagones, a city in the province of Buenos Aires, decided to travel to Mexico six months ago to try her luck as a model.

Last December she again spent time with Reverter, who had been her partner.

According to the statements of the Jalabert family, during their relationship there were tensions and fights that had caused Agostina to try to end the relationship before.

At the same time as Reverter, Candela Jalabert also traveled to Mexico to spend a vacation with her sister.

The afternoon before Agostina was found dead, on February 17, Candela left the house around five in the afternoon, always according to her father's testimony.

She spent the night out and the next morning, when she returned to the apartment, she found the door locked.

Candela called her parents worried.

The door to the house was normally opened with a code that was not working that day.

She called for help from the building's security guard, who told her that there had been a "riot" in the apartment the night before and she was going to have to fine them.

According to the newspaper

La Nación

, the police even appeared at the place, warned by a neighbor who had been alerted by the screams.

Finally, they got Agostina's boyfriend to open the door and they found the model's body.

Candela asked Reverter for help and between the two of them they performed resuscitation maneuvers on her, but the young woman was already dead and they couldn't do anything.

Despite the suspicion of the situation, the police did not arrest Reverter and according to the Jalabert family they treated the case as a suicide.

The family has asked the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Relations for help to resolve the unknowns surrounding the death of the young woman and to be able to bring the alleged femicide to justice.

In Mexico, 10 women are murdered every day.
