The deputy head of the Iranian-Syrian Parliamentary Friendship Association in the Iranian Islamic Shura Council, Dr. Abbas Kalro, confirmed during his meeting with the accompanying parliamentary delegation with the governor of Lattakia, Eng. Amer Hilal, his country's solidarity with the Syrian people, and the continuation of support to face the repercussions of the earthquake disaster.
The two sides discussed the governorate's needs in the humanitarian, health, relief and engineering fields, and ways of cooperation for the reconstruction of dilapidated buildings, securing alternative housing for those affected, and removing collapsed buildings.
Governor Hilal referred to the human and material losses caused by the earthquake and the weakness of the technical capabilities available to deal with its repercussions, as a result of the unilateral coercive Western economic sanctions, as more than 235,000 people were affected in Lattakia Governorate, and 105 buildings were destroyed, with 967 buildings that need removal, and 3,833 buildings that need to be removed. To support and rehabilitate, while expressing the Syrian people's thanks to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its contribution to the relief efforts and the provision of humanitarian assistance to those affected by the earthquake.
In a statement to reporters, Claro pointed to the depth of the historical relations and friendship that bind the two countries, reiterating the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for Syria and its readiness to provide everything needed, and extend a helping hand to help those affected by the earthquake and meet their needs.
The Iranian delegation was briefed on a number of dilapidated sites affected by the earthquake and the conditions of families residing in the shelter center in Al-Assad Sports City in Lattakia, and listened to an explanation from those in charge of the most important requirements and needs to help secure them.
