The Ministry of Culture, the Higher Institute of Music, and the cultural and musical community mourned the honorable maestro Nuri Al-Rahibani, after an honorable career in the Syrian music scene at the age of 84.
Maestro Al-Rahibani led the major European symphony and philharmonic orchestras throughout his creative life. His activities did not stop at that, but he presented many melodies and arrangements for percussion instruments, in addition to various works for the piano and chamber music of all kinds and multiple symphonic works.
Since 2001, he has been invited annually to lead the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra.
Maestro Nouri Al-Rahibani was born in Damascus in 1939. He studied at the Higher Institute of Music in Leipzig, Germany, the rules of composing, piano and conducting the orchestra, and participated in many international workshops with famous orchestra leaders such as Igor Markievicz, Arvid Jansson and Kurt Mazur.
He made many radio and television recordings with the Berlin Radio Big Symphony Orchestra and the Choir Ensemble. In 2001 he was awarded the German Medal of Merit with the Sash in honor of his work as a composer, orchestra leader and music educator.
