Tornadoes and strong winds lash the central US as another round of rain and snow hit the country 2:02
(CNN Spanish) --
California and New York, among others, must prepare for more snowfall starting this weekend, while the storm threatens tornadoes and flooding in the south of the country.
As the following map shows, based on predictions from the National Weather Service, California and Washington in the west, as well as New York, Vermont and Massachusetts on the east coast, are the states that will see the heaviest snow accumulation through Monday. 6th of March.
California prepares for a new snowfall
After a brief respite from winter storms that have brought unusually cold temperatures and triggered exceptional blizzard warnings in California, the upstate is expecting another round of snow starting Saturday.
In some areas, including the Sierra Nevada mountain range, it is possible that by the end of the weekend there will be 30 cm to 1.5 meters of accumulated snow.
And this new
round
comes at a time when many communities covered by the latest snowfall have yet to recover, as snow covered key roads, locked people in their homes and damaged businesses like grocery stores.

Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in 13 counties this week, including San Bernardino, where the National Guard arrived Thursday to help rescue snowbound residents.
snow in the north
In the north they must also be prepared.
The storm that left more than 120,000 people without power in Texas threatens the south with tornadoes and flooding, and the north with snow.
The National Weather Service said the system "will produce a swath of heavy snow from the upper Midwest through New England Friday and Saturday."
South of areas with snow, significant sleet and freezing rain are possible, he added.
Up to 12 inches of snow could fall in parts of New York and New England.
And the storm could also bring snow and ice to cities like Chicago and Detroit.
