The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced Friday the relaxation of mask use and the end of vaccination mandates for health care workers, the department announced.
These are the changes according to the agency statement:
As of April 3, the use of the mask in closed high-risk spaces
and medical care such as hospitals, long-term care centers, prisons, heating and cooling centers will no longer be mandatory.
The vaccine will no longer be required for healthcare workers as of April 3
, as well as for caregivers of the elderly, corrections and detention centers.
A person who tests positive for COVID-19 can end their isolation after
five days
if they feel well and have no fever for 24 hours.

"We have reached a point where we can update some of the guidelines to continue balancing prevention and adaptation to living with COVID-19," said the director of the department, Dr. Tomás Aragón.
The Health Department announced the changes three days after state Governor Gavin Newsom signed a proclamation officially ending the state of emergency and one month after the federal government announced it would end the national emergency on Sept. 11. of May.
“Conditions of extreme danger to the safety of people and property ... no longer exist,” Newsom said.

The end of California's order will have little to no effect on most people, as Newsom lifted most of the state's restrictions, such as those requiring face masks, closing beaches and forcing many businesses to close.
It is a symbolic marking of the end of a period that once drastically altered the lives of the nearly 40 million residents of the state.
