The Spanish
Fernando Alonso
(Aston Martin), double Formula One world champion, who had already been the fastest in Friday's tests, set the best time this Saturday, ahead of the Red Bulls of the Dutchman Max Verstappen and
the
Mexican
Sergio Pérez
, in the last free practice for the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first in the World Cup;
in which his compatriot Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) set the eighth time.
The classification will begin at 11:30 a.m. and can be seen on ESPN 2 and Star+.
Alonso, 41, covered, in the best of his thirteen laps -like the rest, with a soft compound tyre-, the 5,412 meters of the Sakhir circuit in one minute, 32 seconds and 340 thousandths, five less than Verstappen -who he aspires to win his third title in a row;
and that he turned the same times as the Asturian double world champion- and with 106 over 'Checo' Pérez, who scored the second and third times, respectively.
Sainz, 28, who did 21 laps, nine more than 'Checo', finished the last test -not entirely significant, since it was held during the day and both qualifying and the race will be run under artificial light- with eighth time, six tenths behind his compatriot.
His teammate, the Monegasque
Charles Leclerc
, set the fifth time, 284 thousandths behind Alonso;
from which he remained 215, with the fourth time of the last trial, the seven-time English world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).
The Canadian
Lance Stroll , Alonso's new teammate, marked the seventh time of the session with his AMR23, 579 thousandths of a second behind the champion of Oviedo, from which the other Englishman from Mercedes,
George Russell
, finished 391, who registered sixth in
the Timetable.
The qualifying session, which will order the starting formation for this Sunday's race -scheduled for 57 laps to complete a 308.2-kilometre route- will take place starting at 11:30 a.m. (Argentine time) and can be seen on ESPN 2 and Star+.
