Six people died in an attack registered this Saturday in the city of Comayagüela, Honduras.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Security, Miguel Martínez Madrid, confirmed the news to CNN.
The police official pointed out that, according to preliminary reports based on the statements of witnesses, several armed subjects entered a hotel where the victims were - four women and two men - and fired high-caliber weapons at them, taking their lives. Almost immediately.
Martínez Madrid added that two more people, who were at the scene, were injured and were taken to a hospital to be treated.

According to the official, a special team has already been formed that will begin investigations to find the whereabouts of those responsible for the attack and determine the motives.

The director of the Violence Observatory of the National Autonomous University of Honduras, Migdonia Ayestas, told CNN that with this fact there are already eight massacres perpetrated so far in 2023 in Honduras, with a balance of 34 people dead.

In 2022, also according to the sociologist Ayestas, 50 massacres were recorded in Honduras in which 185 people lost their lives.
Since last December, the government of Xiomara Castro implemented the state of emergency in several municipalities of the country, including the Central District where the cities of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela are located.
The validity of the measure was extended with the objective of –according to official sources– “combating extortion and related crimes committed by organized criminal groups.”
