The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform denied what some pages on social media circulated about banning some countries from importing Egyptian onions due to the residual effect of pesticides on them, stressing that the onions imported from Egypt recently conform to Syrian health requirements.

The ministry said in a statement today: The import of onions from Egypt was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Syrian phytosanitary, and it is free from all pests subject to regulations, noting that the shipments were examined by the Plant Quarantine Center at the port of entry in the port of Tartous after checking all the attached documents, especially The phytosanitary certificate, in addition to taking samples and sending them to the specialized accredited laboratories, where the results showed that they were free from pests and were therefore duly released.

The ministry pointed out that contact has been made with the Agricultural Quarantine Department in Egypt, which confirmed that the decision on banning the import of onions from Egypt due to the residual effect of pesticides is old and dates back to more than 4 years and was canceled two months after its issuance. Currently, there is no ban from any country in the world on importing onions. Egyptian onions.

The Ministry reaffirmed that all shipments imported to Syria are presented to plant quarantine and a number of other concerned authorities for sanitary examination, fearing for the health of citizens and plant health, and samples are taken from the shipment and presented to accredited laboratories to ensure that they comply with Syrian requirements.
