The Russian ambassador to Beijing, Igor Morgulov, confirmed that many items of the Chinese initiative on the political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine are consistent with Russia's approach.
"We welcome China's desire to contribute to the peaceful settlement of the conflict, and we are carefully studying the items, many of which agree with our views," Morgulov said in a statement today, TASS news agency quoted him.
Morgulov added, "We share the Chinese side's principles of adherence to the United Nations Charter, and support China's position on the illegality of the unilateral sanctions imposed on Russia."
Last month, the Chinese Foreign Ministry published a document outlining its position on the political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, which includes 12 items, including a call for a cease-fire, respect for the legitimate interests of all countries in the field of security, settlement of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, rejection of unilateral sanctions, and others.
