Today (4th) at about 1 am, the Kwai Tsing Anti-Triad Action Team raided an industrial building in the Kwai Chung section of Castle Peak Road in Kwai Chung, smashing a suspected illegal Texas Hold'em gambling stall.

During the operation, a 42-year-old man surnamed Liu was arrested on suspicion of "operating a gambling establishment" and a 27-year-old woman surnamed Li was suspected of "assisting in the operation of a gambling establishment".

In addition, 6 men and 2 women aged between 23 and 63 were arrested on suspicion of "gambling in a gambling establishment".

During the operation, officers seized about 15,000 yuan in cash, chips with a face value of about 65,000 yuan, and a batch of gambling tools.


The 42-year-old local man surnamed Liu has been charged with one count of "operating a gambling establishment", and the 27-year-old local woman surnamed Li has been charged with one count of "assisting in the operation of a gambling establishment".

In addition, 5 men and 1 woman, aged between 23 and 63, were charged with a total of one crime of "gambling in a gambling establishment".

The case will be brought up in West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts on the morning of March 10.

The remaining 1 male and 1 female, aged 25 and 27, were released on bail pending investigation and must report to the police in early April.

According to the "Gambling Ordinance" Chapter 148 of the Laws of Hong Kong, anyone who operates or assists in the operation of illegal casinos can be sentenced to a maximum fine of 5 million and imprisonment for 7 years upon conviction.

It is also illegal for any person to gamble in a casino. On first conviction, he can be sentenced to a fine of 30,000 yuan and imprisonment for 9 months.
