Members of the Tsuen Wan Police District Special Duty Team launched an anti-crime operation code-named "Li Ting Sweeping Points" in the district at about 3 pm today (4th), raided a residential unit in Tai Po Fong, and smashed a suspected illegal mahjong gambling stall.
During the operation, officers seized 5 mahjong tables, 10 pairs of mahjong, a small amount of gambling money and gambling tools.
During the operation, police officers arrested a 55-year-old local woman surnamed Chen on suspicion of "operating a gambling establishment" and "gambling in a gambling establishment".
Another 6 local men and 1 local woman, aged between 52 and 90, were arrested on suspicion of "gambling in a gambling establishment".
All arrested men and women are now being detained for investigation.
The police arrested seven gamblers, the oldest being 90 years old.

According to the "Gambling Ordinance" Chapter 148 of the Laws of Hong Kong, anyone who operates or assists in the operation of illegal casinos can be sentenced to a maximum fine of 5 million and imprisonment for 7 years upon conviction.
It is also illegal for any person to gamble in a casino. On first conviction, he can be sentenced to a fine of 30,000 yuan and imprisonment for 9 months.
