Participants in the annual meeting of the Presidential Council of the World Confederation of Trade Unions, which was held in the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, called on the governments of the world to put pressure on the US administration to lift the unjust siege and stop the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

In its closing statement today, the Council condemned the practices of the Israeli occupation in the occupied Arab lands, the illegal presence of the American and Turkish forces on Syrian lands, and their plundering of the Syrian people's wealth.

In a speech during the Council meeting, the President of the General Federation of Trade Unions in Syria called on the Vice-President of the World Federation of Trade Unions, Jamal Al-Qadri, to work hard and put pressure on the United States to lift its siege on Syria, and to end its occupation of Syrian lands unconditionally.

Al-Qadri expressed his thanks to all the friends who rushed to send statements of solidarity and condolences for the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Syria on the 6th of last February, and they interacted with the international campaign launched by the Syrian Workers Union to provide aid and took the initiative to collect in-kind and cash donations and send them to the concerned authorities in Syria through its embassies in the outside.

Al-Qadri pointed out that the US administration tried to deceive world public opinion by announcing the suspension of the unilateral coercive measures it imposed on Syria for a period of six months, excluding everything related to the import of oil derivatives or heavy equipment capable of removing rubble and starting the reconstruction of what was left of the earthquake.

It is noteworthy that the World Federation of Trade Unions represents 105 million male and female workers, represented by 126 trade union organizations around the world, and the Syrian Trade Union occupies the position of vice-president and membership of the general secretariat.
