Danny Zamir, who founded the Pre-Military Preparatory Council, urged the graduates not to take action as a protest against the plan that the government wants to pass. According to him, this type of move may come back to harm the demonstrators in other protests in the future. "Refusal is an option that should only be used as a last line of defense when all ends have been exhausted"

The founder of the Pre-Military Preparatory Council, Danny Zamir, today called on tens of thousands of graduates not to refuse to enlist in reserve service in protest of the legal revolution.

"This is an existential risk that should not be taken lightly," wrote Zamir in a letter he sent to my graduates on the 43rd anniversary of Yigal Alon's death.

"Refusal is an option that should only be used as a last line of defense when all ends have been exhausted, and we are not in that place."

"Legitimization of the use of military service for the benefit of civilian citizens, other than as a last line of defense, will come back as a boomerang to many of those considering the current refusal. In fact, it will undermine Israel's ability as a state to enforce or carry out essential government decisions (such as disengagement) in the future," explained Zamir.

"There is a degree of arrogance and undemocratic enforcement in any exploitation of the military status to force a political position."

Zamir urged the high school graduates not to join the protest against the plan that the government wants to pass and wrote: "Refusal at this time will endanger our freedom and sovereignty as a country and as a people, freedom and sovereignty that many good people have given their lives with their bodies and souls to secure, since we were born to establish a home and a homeland here. This is not the time, no This is the way."

At the end of the week, 134 reservists of the Yalam unit warned that they will not enlist if the legal revolution is approved. "We are alarmed by the unilateral moves regarding the legal reform that is being promoted these days in the Knesset," the reservists wrote in a petition signed by about 130 fighters. "If the reform passes in the Knesset - It will make it difficult for us to continue to perform our role in the reserves and will harm our ability to continue to defend the State of Israel." "

We call on the heads of the coalition and the opposition - show us an example of responsibility and national maturity.

"Put pride, political debate and stubbornness aside, discuss immediately until broad agreements are reached regarding the reform," added the fighters. "If the legislative process continues without negotiation and without agreement - the rift in the people, the division and hatred will increase to the point of a real danger to the future of the country."

A., a fighter in the unit who finished regular service in 2008, finished a reserve period last January with his comrades.

According to him, even then the rift following the reform was felt.

In a conversation with Walla, A said that "We say that the reform is tearing the people apart, it is starting to seep into the reserves. If once and today our teams are made up of religious and secular people, kibbutzniks and whatever is in the army today, this rift affects the reserves and that's why we wanted to make our voice heard."

"The petition is signed by officers, soldiers, and even company commanders," he added.

"We didn't want to resort to threats at the moment, what we said is that if this reform passes, it will be very difficult for us to continue the reserves, because this rift seeps into the reserves. We live in our own country. Maybe it's less harsh, but we wanted less to come out with threats because everyone comes out with threats. The message He is clear: if you don't change direction, you will see an impact in the reserves. People will not be able to continue their reserve service as they were used to. And that is our message. We want the best of the State of Israel."

They join reservists from various units, including pilots, unit 8200, cruisers, the special operations unit and elite units in the land arm that have published similar letters.

Among other things, some of the letters state that they will refuse to go to reserve service if the government advances the changes in the justice system and harms democracy.

Chief of Staff Hertzi Halevi expressed concern in closed conversations that if the IDF engages in political debate, this will harm the percentages of showing up for reserve service for training and operational activity, and in the long run will affect the motivation of the youth to enlist in the IDF.
