In an unusual move, the Knesset plenum will convene this morning (Sunday) to finally approve the change to the Knesset's statutes, so that it will not be required to appoint Knesset representatives to the committee for the selection of judges soon.

This, despite the demonstrations against the legal revolution that were held in a number of centers across the country, the largest of which took place in Tel Aviv.

At the same time, the Constitution Committee will convene to hold a repeat vote on the articles of the legal revolution that were approved on Wednesday by the committee, including the superseding clause and a dramatic reduction of judicial review of ordinary laws of the Knesset.

The vote is required in light of claims by members of the Knesset in the opposition, according to which the debate surrounding fundamental rights that may be harmed as a result of the legislation has not yet been exhausted.

Also the special committee for amendments to the Basic Law: the government will meet today, to discuss the detention law, which is designed to prevent the prosecutor and the High Court from removing Netanyahu to detention, as well as promoting the "Deri Law 2", which abolishes judicial review of ministerial appointments.

This law may also help Itamar Ben Gvir, against his appointment to the position of Minister of National Security a petition is being discussed in the High Court.

According to the current regulations, the Knesset is required to appoint the representatives within four months from the date of its establishment.

Now, the coalition will change this, so that the election of representatives will be within seven months at the latest.

The coalition explained that if the composition of the committee will be changed in any case as part of the reform, there is no point in electing representatives for such a short period.

The convening of the plenary on Sunday is an unusual step, and the coalition claimed that additional bills would be promoted and not just the change in question, this is due to Purim next week, when the Knesset is not active at all.

The coalition is promoting the change in the statutes for final approval following MK Ze'ev Elkin's appeal to Knesset Secretary Dan Marzuk, in which he claimed that the Knesset should choose its representatives on the committee for the selection of judges in accordance with the current statutes, since its change was not finally approved by the plenary. The coalition was pressured by this and asked to approve the change as soon as possible. .
