A serious traffic accident occurred in North Point today (5th). When an urban taxi was falling along Fortress Hill Road, someone reported that the brakes had failed. It failed to stop at the red light and "bowling" crashed into 3 people who were crossing the road. Passers-by, causing two people to become unconscious; the 84-year-old taxi driver and male passenger also reported being injured and needed to be sent to the hospital. A total of five people were injured in the accident.
The taxi stopped after crossing King's Road and hit a traffic light. The police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Among the 5 injured, the 84-year-old taxi driver surnamed Ni suffered from chest pains. After undergoing an alcohol test, the result proved to be zero. He was sober and was sent to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment. A 48-year-old foreign female passerby had a scratch on her right hand, and a 43-year-old Filipino male passenger surnamed Zhuang had a scrape on his right leg and was conscious. The four were sent to the Eastern District Hospital for treatment.
It is understood that the taxi was driving towards the direction of King's Road earlier. When it arrived at the junction of Fortress Hill Road and King's Road, someone reported that there was a problem with the vehicle's engine and could not control the brakes. The taxi hit a traffic light and hit the road. Three pedestrians were knocked down, and other passers-by passing by the site called the police.
The police and ambulancemen arrived at the scene and sent all the injured to the hospital for treatment. The case was handed over to the special investigation team of the Traffic Department of Hong Kong Island for follow-up.
The police said that they received multiple reports that a taxi was traveling along Fortress Hill Road northbound towards Tai Keung Street. A female passerby was passing by before crashing into a lamp post before stopping.
