Today, Damascus University commemorated the tenth anniversary of the death of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, by laying a wreath on his memorial in the university's garden, in the presence of the Chargé d'Affairs at the Venezuelan Embassy, ​​Hossam El-Aissami.

In a statement to the media, El-Aissami said: The University of Damascus is of great importance in the life of Commander Chavez, and he was honored there with an honorary doctorate in international relations, in appreciation of his struggle and his firm positions, pointing to the privacy of this memory for all peoples seeking to preserve their sovereignty and obtain their rights, with Syria at the forefront.

El-Aissami pointed out that President Nicolas Maduro continues the approach of leader Chavez, who supported just causes such as the Palestinian cause and loved Syria, stressing that Venezuela is stronger than ever, thanks to the civil-military unity where the people and the army unite together, presenting the most wonderful examples of cohesion.

El-Aissami stressed that Venezuela and Syria are similar, as Syria was and still continues to confront imperialism and Zionism and the plans that were hatched against it through sanctions and the imposition of an unjust siege on its people, calling on all honorable people in the world to work to lift the unjust siege imposed on the peoples of the two countries.

In turn, the President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Osama al-Jabban, confirmed that the relations between the two countries are witnessing a great development, pointing to the existence of an upcoming action plan related to joint cooperation between Damascus University and Venezuelan universities, to cover all fields of scientific, research and student cooperation.

The coward praised the distinguished position of the late Chavez among the Syrian people, who have love and appreciation for him, because of the values ​​and honorable political stances he represents in support of Syria and the just causes of peoples, expressing his hope that both countries will enjoy prosperity and progress.

It is noteworthy that the University of Damascus granted the late leader an honorary doctorate in international relations in 2006 in appreciation of his struggle and his firm stances on just Arab issues. On the 17th of April 2014, the university named a garden within its campus after the leader Chavez, who died on the 5th of March 2013. University, on the occasion of the first anniversary of his passing, in appreciation of his struggle history and tireless work to develop relations between Syria and Venezuela.
