Daniel Rafecas demanded that the Senate deal with his list for attorney and said that filling this vacancy "will help to face the drama that Rosario is experiencing."

Three years after sending his application to Congress with the endorsement of Alberto Fernández, the federal judge asked to speed up the treatment. Why he believes the role is key to addressing drug trafficking in Santa Fe.

Federal Judge

Daniel Rafecas

demanded from the Senate, chaired by Cristina Kirchner, the treatment of his statement to become the new

 Attorney General of the Nation,

as President Alberto Fernández postulated.

It was when he recalled that

three years have passed since the proposal entered the Upper House

and he tied his claim in the framework of the escalation of violence registered in Rosario, about which he maintained that filling that vacancy is key to confronting the problem of drug trafficking in that city in the province of Santa Fe.

In a message posted on his Instagram account, Rafecas stated, on the third anniversary of having been nominated for the position, that his officialization "

will contribute to confronting the drama that Rosario is experiencing due to organized crime."

In this sense, the federal judge explained that "both the federal prosecutors of that city, as well as the Attorney against drug trafficking (Procunar)

depend on the head of the Public Ministry

, which is the Attorney."

On an interim basis and since the time of the government of Mauricio Macri, the role

is currently occupied by Eduardo Casal

, since the resignation of Alejandra Gil Carbó -one of the founders of the K current among Legitimate Justice magistrates- to the position in 2017. The current head of prosecutors is a target of criticism from Kirchnerism.

In his post, Rafecas also indicated that, if appointed, he will apply the power to

implement the accusatory model,

"more agile, modern and efficient", both in Santa Fe and in the rest of the country.

This system was approved in Congress in 2015.

Daniel Rafecas demanded the treatment of the document that appoints him Attorney General of the Nation to the Chamber of Senators.

"If this vacancy is filled,

the pending federal prosecutor contests would also advance

, trials against humanity could be accelerated, tend to gender parity within the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Nation and activate many pending programs," he stressed in his defense with reproachful tone to the paralysis of his statement.

"For my part,

I remain willing and prepared to be summoned to the

legal hearing, and to be subjected to the scrutiny of the senators and society," he concluded.

The position of Attorney General of the Nation is key because it is the

head of all federal prosecutors

and the one who decides judicial policies for the Public Ministry.

During his tenure, former President Macri proposed Judge Inés Weinberg de Roca - now in charge of the City's Superior Court of Justice - for the position, but Kirchnerismo systematically refused to give her the necessary votes in the Senate.

Alberto Fernández, in his turn, promoted Rafecas, but his position was blocked.

Who is Daniel Rafecas?

Rafecas won a contest in the Nation's Judicial Council and was appointed federal judge during the government of Néstor Kirchner, at a time when Alberto Fernández was chief of staff.

He was linked to the former Attorney General of the Nation, Eduardo "Bebe" Righi, mentor of the current President.

Righi, for his part, had been fired from his post by Cristina Kirchner in 2012 after he allowed the prosecutor Carlos Rívolo to raid the apartment of the then Vice President of the Nation, Amado Boudou.
