Excavators came in the middle of the night to demolish an old Biedermeier house in Sendling.
The city is planning new residential units.
Munich – When excavators roll up in the middle of the night to demolish an old house, the alarm bells go off in many Munich residents.
The illegal demolition of the watchmaker's house in Giesing in September 2017 raised awareness among many.
On Thursday night, another night demolition took place – at Plinganserstraße 50. However, this time everything was completely legal.
The residential complex at Plinganserstraße 50-62 in Sendling is to be given a more modern design.
Frankfurt-based Industria Wohnen wanted to add around 200 new apartments to the existing 300 apartments near Harras Post, and a day-care center west of Karwendelstrasse and additional commercial space are also to be built.
The open spaces will be unsealed and redesigned.

Demolition in Sendling: City plans new commercial and residential units
The 2.8-hectare site is located in the southwest of Munich, about 100 meters south of Harras, west of Plinganserstrasse and east of Sendlinger Friedhof.
The site was developed with residential and retail buildings of various structures and heights from the 1960s and 1970s.
In the meantime, the municipal GWG has taken over the project.
The Frankfurt investor had wanted to sell the land to an investor from Denmark, but the city exercised its right of first refusal.
The commercial buildings along Plinganserstraße will be replaced by six-storey buildings.
The existing underground car park will be supplemented by a two-storey one.
In addition, the GWG is now also planning a densification of the rear property areas by supplementing and adding stories to the existing residential buildings.
Monument protectors against demolition: the house dates from the Biedermeier period
The old house, which has now fallen victim to the excavators, dates from the Biedermeier period.
However, not much was left of the historic building.
Monument preservationists would still have liked to keep it.
But nothing came of it.
