The Knesset's Ethics Committee: Almog Cohen will not be able to speak in plenary and committees for 5 days - voila! news

On video: From the Facebook live of MK Almog Cohen from "Otzma Yehudit" during the Knesset vote yesterday (from a live broadcast on MK Almog Cohen's Facebook page)

The ethics committee determined this evening (Sunday) that Knesset member Almog Cohen from Otzma Yehudit will not be able to speak in plenary and committees for five days, will not be able to submit bills or queries until the end of the winter conference and will be severely reprimanded.

This, following the video of the live broadcast he made in the plenary, in which, among other things, he spoke condemning MK Merav Ben Ari and said that she has "the voice of a sponge maker", and also made noises of silencing and clucking at MK Ofer Kasif and said "like a lamb, you should talk to him in his language", and "supports terrorism".

Cohen's decision states that "the committee takes very seriously the behavior and statements of Knesset member Cohen, some of his statements constitute humiliation, ridicule, contempt and slander."

The members of the committee also added that "they have no place in the public discourse, least of all in the Knesset plenum. The statements of Knesset member Cohen amount to defamation and personal humiliation that have no place in the Knesset, they cannot be defended, and they even harm the image of the State of Israel. understand some of his statements in a racist and even chauvinistic context. The committee believes that it would have been better if these statements had not been said."

In addition, the Ethics Committee decided to impose a punishment of a severe reprimand and a restriction on the use of any parliamentary tool until the end of the winter conference on Knesset members Yorai Lahav Hertzno Vladimir Bialik Mish Atid, after the two climbed on the table of the Constitution Committee during a debate in which they approved the articles of the legal reform.

The committee's decision states that "it is to be regretted that only a few months after the beginning of the Knesset term, the ethics committee is required to engage in unusual behaviors that dishonor the Knesset's honor and status. The committee takes this seriously as the public watches the behavior of Knesset members and it affects them negatively."

However, the members of the committee took into account that this was the first event of the accepted Knesset members.
