Ambassador Sabbagh: The unprofessional reports issued by the OPCW allowed Western countries to use it as a platform to target Syria

Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that Syria has repeatedly declared its categorical condemnation of the use of chemical weapons by anyone, at any time, place and under any circumstances, and has cooperated with full transparency and openness with the Ban Organization, destroying its entire stockpile and production facilities in 2014.

During a session of the UN Security Council, Ambassador Sabbagh said: Making false accusations about Syria's failure to implement its obligations and not referring to positive results are clear indications of the extent of politicization that has overwhelmed the work of the Ban Organization and its departure from the lofty purpose for which it was found.

Ambassador Sabbagh explained that the unprofessional reports issued by the technical secretariat of the OPCW, which are based on information that does not have any credibility, allowed Western countries to use them as a platform to target Syria.

Ambassador Sabbagh pointed out that terrorist groups are continuing to prepare for plays using chemical weapons to accuse the Syrian government, and recently transported plastic barrels containing chlorine between two warehouses in Idlib countryside.

Ambassador Sabbagh pointed out that some countries continue to ignore the threat posed by terrorist organizations' possession of weapons of mass destruction, which raises serious risks for all Member States, which requires condemnation and immediate and serious action to prevent these weapons from reaching terrorists.

Ambassador Sabbagh stressed the need for some countries to abandon their hostile approach towards Syria and not to exploit the Security Council's discussions regarding the so-called (chemical file) in it for political purposes.
